I am planning on writing a YA urban fantasy story with the premise of a group of kids fighting against fair folk who want to take over the world.
I was highly inspired by Trollhunters, both the book by Del Toro and Krause and the Netflix animated series.
During the course of the story its revealed that fairy society is strongly hierarchal and based on strength of magical power, with goblins, gnomes and pixies at the bottom, looked down upon for their weak magic and often employed as servants and disposable minions to those of higher status. I want to deconstruct the common trope of heroes killing mooks by the dozen which happen a lot in fantasy stories, by showing that most of the "bad guys" the heroes fight don't want to be there.
I plan to make the protagonists eventually befriend a lower-class magical being like a goblin or a pixie to make them empathize with their plight as well as gaining an important ally who can give them insider knowledge against the main antagonists. However, my story will not focus on changing the status quo in fey society and the protagonists' priorities are "defeat the bad guys, save the world", not fighting to correct injustice. I don't think they would be well-equipped to make any great social changes, being children and outsiders to a different culture.
Do I need to change the status quo of fair folk society to make a "good" story?

Biggest advantage is it encourages you to spend more time inside lessons and stories. I was hung up on losing the choice that the old layout allowed, but I’ve come around to the thinking that choosing which lesson to do next is a huge distraction and waste of time. It doesn’t really matter if you pick the lesson on the left or the right or a level 4 lesson a few rows back, at least not enough to warrant your time and energy. Just let duo handle it and jump right into the big “START” prompt, if you’re an active user it could add up to saving you hours of time you’d otherwise have to waste modeling those choices in your head. Kudos to the product team for pushing through all the negativity and change aversion online.

So, I checked out the church books from Poland, and I found something curious. It either makes the story I have more interesting, or I have the wrong records.
I thought that I could my great-great-grandmother Mary (Ziemba) Chakuas. However, the discovery that I made is that the woman who I found in the church records was later married in Poland, about half of a year after my grandmother was married in the USA. So, unless she implausibly went back to Poland to remarry and then come back to the USA, then I have the wrong girl.
With the US records, there was not much to go off of. Her birthday changes in every document, and her parents. I have not been able to confirm any of these documents, outside of the US records with living relatives, since they do not know.
Perhaps, I mistranslated Mary into Polish, perhaps I have the wrong manifest, but I don't think that I do. The problem was that she did not speak English well in life, so pretty much all of her documents are messed up, however, the strongest theory that I have is that the manifest points towards a town named Borki, and the SS application points to "Satuchin, Dombrowa, Austria," which is referring to Szczcuin, a town two towns over from Borki. I've asked a Polish person to pronounce the town name for me, and it sounds pretty similar to what was written on her paper.

I’m tired of having scare tactics used against me to scare me into the “truth”, I’m tired of being presented hateful ideology so that I can “change”, i’m tired of fearing for my safety in my own household.
IVE had constant paranoia, anxiety, and hour long panic attacks for the past week and I feel like if I hold them in any longer, im going to burst and get myself in trouble. This is my only chance, and if I say one wrong thing im fucked. Im preparing what I’m gonna say, because I cant tell my parents a WORD about what im going to tell my therapist, its just too risky.. I have to be as easygoing as possible so that she doesnt think im being abused (even though I kinda am) and I get myself in trouble. It needs to happen, and I need it to go well. Any tips on how to bring up the topic of religious trauma to my therapist in a discreet way possible?

I qualify for dual citizenship, perhaps triple?, from friendly nato nations, but I haven't exercised it yet, I wanted to but a job came up suddenly and I have a chance at getting a security clearance for it. I don't have dual or triple citizenship at the moment but the window for one or both will run out at some point.
My question is if I was to apply for and 'gain' the citizenship I am entitled to by law would that jeopardize my clearance, if granted? Would it be better to wait a few years until I either leave a clearance position, well before the window closes(unless some new law shuts it faster) or just 'risk' it and get it while I have clearance?

Hello, hair scientists. I will do my best to use the correct terminology explaining my situation.
TLDR: Left the salon with a perm with curls to my liking. Next morning, woke up to no defined curls at all. What happened? I'm going back to the stylist to "fix" it but I'm afraid he doesn't even know what went wrong to know how to fix it.
My hair is thicc, straight and course. I'm a wash and go girl. I do color glosses about 2-3x year, very limited heat styling; usually just light blow drying after 90% air dry.
Last Wed I got a American Wave Cold Perm. The rods the stylist used looked to be about 1' and ¾". He had trouble rolling my hair with the papers, like he didn't have the dexterity or strength. They didn't feel tight enough against my head. I should have probably spoken up
He applied the softening for 20 mins, with just plastic shower caps, no heat application. I did mention off hand that in the 90s my perms took forever 'to take" and spent a lot of time under the dryer with my hairdresser checking and rechecking.
He replied that modern perm solutions are different now and that 20 mins are all they need and no heat. I didn't question him any further, he delivered it quite confidently.
(Is this enough time break down the disulphide bonds?)
Did the neutralizing step and wash. Hair looks wavy with a slight S curl, no real defined ringlets, which is what I wanted. He blot dried with a towel and then put my under a radiant heat dryer (no blowing air). Added no product. I liked it. I felt it came out just like I asked for.
My hair felt healthy, not dried out of wiry.
When I went to sleep, I wore a satin wrap to prevent friction, cause I toss and turn in the night.
Well I woke up and my hair had zero definition of a curl. I looked like I went out the night before and had my hair professionally blown out and then I slept on it like a sloppy drunk. The hair was full of body and texture, very much that tousled bed head look, but not what I wanted.
I called the stylist right away and he immediately blamed it on the thickness of the rod. He wants another chance to fix it by redoing it with a thinner rod.
Am I an idiot to let this guy near my head again? GEtting another perm within 10 days, will that fuck up the structure of my hair?
So when I shower, my hair is exactly what I want it to be. I put in curl cream, let air dry and then put in a flexible gel with soft hold. Looks good all day, but the next day it straight again. What is the actually science behind what is happening to my hair? Why won't it hold permamently?

2023.03.22 23:19 Visual-Conference-38 Range Hood got louder after moving it
Have a Broan BWP1 30" ducted range hood. Advertised noise volume on mid setting is 3 sones (43 db).
Installed it and ran for 3 months and it achieved about that sound rating.
Redid the kitchen, so took it down, installed it again, and now it runs at around 75db at the mid setting.
Both installs use one 6" 90 degree elbow to vent to outside.
Here's what changed:
In the new install the range hood is 6" higher off the cook top (was 18" now 24")
The first install had a galvanized 30 gauge 90 degree elbow the new install has a 24 gauge furnace 90 degree elbow
More insulation packed around the pipe in the new install
Why could the new install be so much louder?

Read the 12 steps. I am unsure if I’m looking this up too early since it’s before the 21 day mark- is it normal for the system to not have my info entered yet after 14 days? Both the occourts.org website as well as the phone number listed for the Harbor Justice Center Newport Beach (all automated, no live person options), don’t recognize the only number listed on my citation (top right) when I enter it. We still have a presence in Caldari faction warfare space, helping take several systems from those rascally Gallente. It's FANTASTIC fun! Small gang and solo PVP abound, and we make plenty of ISK with the LP rewards. Faction Warfare is experiencing a renaissance, and so is Test/Dreddit.

- Lots of fleets between us and our Fac War allies. There's pretty much always something happening, and because fleet sizes are often <=10 people, you make a welcome impact whenever you join!
- A TON of fleets in Nullsec between us and our WinterCo allies. Battleships, logi, HACs, and cloaky stuff. Cap fights too though I'm not sure if we are joining those yet. These are big loud fleets with fun toys. Still SRP!
- Really chill leadership. We have never had a dictator, luckily. You won't even notice them most of the time.
- Aggressively welcoming. No bullying, hazing, or scamming. Transphobes, racists, homophobes, or misogynists get one warning if they're lucky. Usually just an insta-kick. Everyone should feel welcome.
- IRL meetups occasionally. Hundreds of active players all over the world (~4,000 characters) hang out at bars and go to museums and stuff.
- Lots of social stuff in our discord. Forum games, watch movies with us, food/hobby channels. Space nerds. One member is making the biggest, coolest dang Minecraft city you've ever seen and we all get to watch. We often play other games together too.

So I had the front page of a site done in Figma. It will be ready in a day or 2. Given my developers' workload, I need to find someone to take the figma code and add the necessary animation. You'd take the Figma file, put it at a URL of your choosing, do the animation for desktop, mobile, etc., and give us the URL and all the code so our developer can put it on our site (we do not have a WordPress site).

I know a lot of you saw my last, very lengthy post about how I was ready to end it all because I was sick of nothing changing…
Well someone must’ve been looking out for me because after days of researching methods and purely getting myself ready to die - my luck has just changed out of nowhere and suddenly everything’s looking up for me.
I’ve had 2 mental health services reach out to me finally off of referrals that were made at least a year ago now. I’ve finally managed to speak to a good doctor who’s taking me seriously about my health concerns, and I got told this morning that they’ve found me a place and I get to move in the next few months finally into somewhere I can stay for good and it’s all mine.
And I get to see my son in 3 weeks for the first time in 6 months!!!
Thankyou massively to everyone who commented on my last post, both encouraging me not to and advising me how to. Cannot explain how helpful it all was, and I know that this isn’t gonna solve all my problems but I already feel a hell of a lot better. And I don’t wanna die for at least another few months, not when everything could get so much better for me 🥰
