2022.12.30 17:52 Irisofdreams The Carsekh- Apex Predator of the Khalim Skies
The Carsekh was a small, venomous, winged reptile in the land of Khalim, the only venomous creature in Khalim. The early Khal-nek settlers first found their land on following its cries of " Caa", due to this they named it Carsekh, i.e Ca-leader. They used poison to hunt for food and were heavily dependent on the Carsekh's venomous secretions, and so over time Car became another word for poison. The first king, Khalinek, famously declared
"Na Khalinek na Nak di ka pre, Carsekh di ka pre, Sekhdi lenhem kar di"
Or
"Pray not to me , or to the gods, pray to the Carsekh, for it has brought you home."
They began worshipping it, and over time, it became known as Carcar, the best poison, and as God.

2022.06.12 17:16 LleuLlawR Changsik on his Overwatch Career and Casting
Kim Jungmin, a KR caster, just had a light chat with Changsik on Twitch. These are excerpts (paraphrased, not word for word) that I thought were interesting. Changsik is doing quite great on broadcast (he has these adorable moments being new to casting & bantering about his stint on Vancouver) but his story about his Overwatch career is pretty... depressing, just wish he got a better chance in OWL.
- When it was announced that I was going to be a caster for OWL, I had two people who came to ask me how I got the offer. One of them is Chara, who's a coach for the Fusion right now... he's said that he wanted to take the career path of being a coach, and moving on to casting eventually. The other player, he's currently a player, so I won't reveal who he is. (KJM: Yeah, people might doubt his motivation for playing if you do.) Yeah, I'll just say, he shoots guns very well. For myself though, I actually have no idea why I got the offer... I was lying on my bed when I got a random phone call from Shim (*a KR caster). He asked me if I was interested, I said yes, and here I am.
- I do review all of my own casting, I have a list of timestamps that I want to review specifically, but I also watch the whole thing. I've noticed that I pronounce some words in a really muffled way, so I searched up speaking exercises for news casters and did them with a pen in my mouth. (KJM: I used to do them too when I was new, they don't help though)
- I started playing games competitively with Cyphers. I used to be really bad at FPS games, but I got invested in Cyphers, and I found out OGN ran a tournament. I competed in it for 5 years. After I realized my school friends weren't going to be good enough to compete, I got teammates online, and I was the team captain. Our team, on my last year, was so dominant, we actually had a 95% winrate in scrims. We dominated everyone right up until the finals... but one of our teammates got super cocky, totally shit the bed in the finals, and we got reverse swept by the team we beat in the winner's final. The winners got 50,000$ and we got 10,000$. I was so mad at that, because this game didn't have pro teams, so the prize was all we got. I got so mad I quit the game. After that Overwatch was about to be released, and as soon as I found out, I decided I was going to become a pro; I was going to play Overwatch to become a pro.
(* Cyphers is a Korean AOS game, and a lot of Overwatch pros started with it, including Mano, Miro and EFFECT.)
- Back then I didn't have a good computer at home, so I asked my mom to get me one, and I'd pay her back working part time at a KBBQ place. I paid her back on minimum wage, 4$ back then, moving coals and stuff. Then my dad asked me something that was really hurtful; it was right when League of Legends was really picking up as an esports, and he asked me, "why aren't you competing a big, popular game like League?" That really hurt me a lot back then.
- When APEX was really popular, the popular teams paid their players pretty well. My team, Meta Athena, wasn't as popular, so I never got paid. OGN did a content thing where they filmed us in our team house, and we were the only team that looked like we belonged to "Human Theater"(*It's a Korean tv show documenting the lives of people who are usually not so well off). Our house was on this really steep slope, and when it rained or snowed we had no delivery options. They refused to come because it was so dangerous. We had eleven people in a house with two rooms, and in each bunk bed we had three people, one on the top bunk and two on the bottom bunk.
- They did feed us, but with instant ramen all the time, so it was like getting rations. Once a month we got to choose the type of ramen to get, and it became kind of a currency, the different types of ramen. We occasionally had big meals too, when we made a whopping meal of two spicy noodles... (KJM: two spicy noodles! for each person!) no, for two people. (KJM: oh my god you're giving me a migraine.)
- You know, I was the one who got sponsors for our team. This company, they were considering becoming a sponser but backed out, and I knew their people from my Cyphers days. I talked them back into becoming our sponsers, and our team's management never thanked me for it. Not even a meal.
- When everyone on Kongdoo Panthera were getting offers for OWL, Choisehwan (who was underage) and I were the only ones getting no offers. Back then we had a small room where the coach called on the players who were getting offers, to talk about their contracts, and I never got called. It was really depressing, when we had dinner together, and everyone was talking about their offers and salaries... I'm sure none of them were intentionally doing that to make me feel bad, but you know... And later on it came to a point where they didn't call me to have dinner together anymore. I had to eat alone. I was the team captain, I used to order food on the team credit card and everything, and I was the only one left behind.
- After I didn't get picked up by OWL, I seriously wanted to retire, and that's what I told the coach... but the coach told me it would be such a waste of my talents. Then I got offers from both FUNI and EnvyUs; both were really urgent offers too, and I joined FUNI because they had more KR players, but looking back I think I should've joined EnvyUs. Still, FUNI was the first team I played for that gave a 'respectable' salary. It felt really great, getting paid something that looked like a normal wage.
- We completely crushed everyone in NA contenders too, with me on the starting roster full time. Then something happened that made me think I was the unluckiest player in overwatch... FUNI was relocating to Korea, making their transition into T1. We had our first matches right after we landed in Korea, when we were totally jetlagged. Our support, Carcar, couldn't come because he wasn't korean, so we had Elk, who hadn't played overwatch for half a year. Obviously we tanked, and this was the last season of Contenders before the off season... but I thought that this time I was going to get an offer for OWL, because FUNI had three championships with me as the starting roster. But again, I was the only one not to get an offer, not even an offer to trial. Even Beasthalo, who was benched for me, got picked up. Later on I heard that one team decided to give me an offer, but one staff on that team decided on their own to give that offer to someone else. That really made me think I was the unluckiest player ever.
- You know how players come back to Korea after the season ends? During that time I met all my friends who were in OWL, and I could see them wearing a lot of... brands, you know the popular ones back then. They always told me I should be in OWL, and that they didn't understand why I wasn't in OWL. I knew they had good intentions, but that got progressively difficult to hear.
- When I was on Vancouver I was on 160 ping, and that was for west coast. I was on 240 ping v Paris, and we were in a Rein meta. How was I supposed to play Rein? I couldn't react to shatters, I had to predict everything. With 240 ping, if you charge, the game freezes for like 0.5 seconds after you run into a wall.
- You know, I've been competing for like ten years (for both Overwatch and Cyphers), and now that I'm not doing it, I feel so much at peace. (...) I know that I wasn't a very successful player, a half-baked leaguer or an at-home leaguer I guess, but you never know what I have waiting in the future, you know?
*Edit: Added another anecdote about casting, corrections for the prize money (definitely too much for a game without a proper pro scene lol.)

2020.09.07 20:18 Chief__Prief Each OWL Team’s Biggest Question for Next Season following the Team's Elimination from the Playoffs. Spoilers if You're behind on Watching.
Hey all.
I've decided to write up a giant article that dives into what I think are each of the OWL team's biggest question for the next season. I tried not to make each of the questions an obvious one. These questions need to be addressed if the team wants to succeed next year. I'm going to put out a post that covers five teams that have been eliminated. Each team's segment is about 350-500 words.
Obviously, spoilers below. I would love to see what the community's thoughts are on what each team should do for next season. Thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of the playoffs!
#20 Houston Outlaws: Who do you sign to round off your DPS line with Danteh and Linkzr?
- Going home first in the playoffs is something that’s going to hurt for a while, and questions will be asked about how in the world did this train wreck happen. In fact, Houston has so many questions that need to be asked. I’m sure the Outlaws players themselves are asking what do they do to win a map five so they don’t end up in the same situation they found themselves in for this year’s playoffs, but the biggest issue with the team is that it lacks a superstar DPS player that can win those matches when the pressure’s on. Houston could even succeed with a star-level DPS player who’s very versatile that could slot in Danteh or LiNkzr based on the meta. Danteh has looked great on Tracer, Sombra, and Echo this season, and LiNkzr, while being a bit inconsistent, has potential for huge plays at any given time. As Houston has come to realize, the answer is not blasé. Blasé was much hyped going into the league from Contenders but has been a sore spot on Houston this season (and Boston last season). When blasé was the mainstay starter next to Danteh at the start of the season, the best DPS player on Houston was often Jecse on Lucio. My immediate reaction to whenever blasé was put in over LiNkzr was “and Houston’s throwing.” It might be harsh, but blasé never inspired much confidence in me even when it was a Genji, Doom, or Junk meta. His Roadhog looked good in the playoffs, and as it may pain him to hear this suggestion, he may try to pull a Hydration and transition to tank for another team. So, who does Houston get to replace him? Well, they have options. Houston at least does not have to deal with the problem of being a small-market team that can’t pull in players from top teams. Houston managed to get MekO from New York, so they could try to get someone from New York again. Libero is someone who could slot in well with the team and has previous synergy with MekO while assuring that the team is covered for each potential meta. Houston could also try to dip into the Shock’s immense talent pool. If Houston could manage to pry away Rascal, Striker, or ANS, then they would immediately start contending with the top teams. Seeing Hydration back on projectile DPS was great to see, and for the most part, he looked like his old self. As a side note, attempting to upgrade Hydration at the main tank position should be obvious. As much as I am a fan of Hydration, he does not have the carry potential that you want from your main tank. If Houston sticks with Hydration, however, then I feel the team could still succeed as long as they sure up their DPS.
#19 Vancouver Titans: Do you stick with the current roster or attempt to upgrade?
- Plain and simple, Vancouver was one hell of a weird team this past season. After coming off a runner’s-up finish in their inaugural season (in which the team did not have many supporters going into the season), the organization and the players were at such odds with each other that all the players got released and replaced with Contenders players. Surprisingly, the new roster didn’t look as completely helpless as popular belief held despite from having players play from all over the world. As such, critiquing any of the players is unfair and invalid until the roster plays together in a LAN environment. Although, Vancouver’s past success could nudge the organization’s management to try to upgrade the roster into one that makes the playoffs instead of sitting bottom three. I wouldn’t be surprised if the team signs a new off tank to replace KSAA because of how deep the position is in Overwatch, but the guy was playing on over 200-ping and still had some bright spots which could lead the team to committing to him and giving him a fair chance to show his worth. Both sHockWave and Dalton have shown stretches of upper-level play at their positions, but Dalton faded as the season went on. Seeing sHockWave dominate the way he did at the end of the season was highly impressive noting the super high ping he played on. I can only think of the potential he will show when everything moves back to being LAN. The team doesn’t have a strong projectile player, so someone could be picked up to round off all the heroes. Replacing Dalton seems like a stretch to do, but if the team can pick up a newer player that shows a lot of talent, then I would support that decision. CarCar and Roolf look like a duo that has the same potential as BigG00se and Shaz. ShRedLock has even looked pretty decent when the team plays hyper aggressive and he’s on Rein. I know being one of the first teams eliminated in the playoffs is something that stings; however, the Titans put up a better fight against the Justice than some of the other teams that played in the playoffs, so the team is in a good spot for next season. It would be smart for Vancouver to try to pull in a big-name talent at any position, but this roster could really excel together if they build chemistry and have a chip on their shoulders about really proving that they belong in the Overwatch League instead of Contenders.
#18 London Spitfire: Can you keep Glister and build around him?
- Glister was by far London’s best player this year, and everyone knew that would be the case going into the season. Now, Glister is going to be garnering even more attention than he had going into the league. It was shocking that London even managed to get him in the first place. Can the team convince him to come back if they pitch a good enough plan to bring in people that can play on the same level as Glister? Glister gives you a superstar talent that dominates the hitscan role, but even he cannot carry the rest of the team in a fashion to compete with the top half of the league. The apparent weakness of the team is the tank line, so that should be a spot to heavily invest in. However, London would look a lot better if there weren’t a division between NA and APAC, but since that was not the case, the team looks weak and will struggle to keep Glister’s interest. But, a small beacon of hope is in London’s hands if Glister parts ways with the team. Babel. As weak as Babel has looked on roles when he plays with Glister (looking at you Sombra), Babel has excelled at the heroes that are normally played by Glister – Babel’s Widow has looked even better than Glister’s. So, London has a fallback plan if they lose Glister, but London should be trying to do everything in their power to keep hold of him. London could try to bring Profit back to play alongside Glister, and that duo would be deadly if Profit could learn to play a supporting role to Glister. London could also take a stab at some of the former Vancouver players like Bumper, Fissure, and ryujehong. The simple fact is that London needs to commit to building around Glister and try to put forth a stacked roster or they will lose him and be stuck at the bottom of the league – a far cry from their title in season one.
#17 Toronto Defiant: Do you value the team’s connection to the fans or a team that wins?
- If this organization wants to succeed, then they need to blow this team up. Toronto underperformed this season compared to most analyst’s preseason predictions because they thought the synergy of the veteran players, who have played with each other often, would carry over to wins. It didn’t. Admittedly, analysts expected travel to be a big cause for Toronto’s synergy to succeed, but COVID hit and stopped travel. Looking at Toronto during the first part of the season when there was travel, however, the team was dreadful. The only thing Toronto can hang its hat on for this past season is a good showing at the Summer Showdown. Going forward, Toronto must decide if the team’s connection to the fans warrants keeping some of the current roster. When building the roster initially, getting some of the premiere Canadian players was integral to the organization because it wanted to succeed both in and out of the Overwatch League. Bottom line is that the team’s lack of success in the league should result in the organization blowing up the team and keeping a select number of players. The only players I would keep from the current roster would be Logix and Kariv (and Agilities by proxy since they’re a package deal at this point). Logix was an unexpected bright spot on the team this year and reminded everyone that he is a strong hitscan player when given a team around him that doesn’t crumble by a gentle breeze. Kariv is still a fantastic flex support and one of the best Ana’s in the league. I would say that Toronto should keep Surefour, but I expect him to move on from the league and focus on streaming. I also expect Mangachu to move fully into a coaching position with the team which I like. If the team keeps Agilities, then he sures up some of the projectile heroes, but he needs to be pocketed because of his aggressive play. I would still look for a stronger DPS player and an entirely new team especially a main tank player. Seeing the Defiant’s immediate improvement when numlocked stepped into the role over Beast demonstrates how much a team can be held back by a weak main tank. The team now just needs to cut its losses and rebuild for the future.
#16 Boston Uprising: How do you go from being a farm team to someone that is respected?
- Boston went from a legitimate contender in season one to the worst team in the league two seasons later. The key difference is the complete lack of talent between then and now. The organization places an emphasis on cheap players for a quick return on investment, so the org never keeps the players that show talent in the league (Striker, Gamsu, NotE, etc.). Now, Boston has two players that show superstar-level talent that other teams would want: Jerry and Myunb0ng. Colourhex, Fusions, and Punk have all shown some positive moments, but none of them have shown star-level potential. Jerry crushes the hitscan position (still needs work on Tracer), and I propose that we consider changing the term “Fleta Deadlift” to the “Jerry Carry” with the amount of work Jerry’s back has seen this season. Myunb0ng has an Ana that’s clear cut above everyone in the league including that of greats like Kariv, Twilight, and JJoNak. Myunb0ng needs to get better at the other supports like Baptiste, but he’s a good enough flex support to easily build a team around. The problem Boston faces in trying to stop being a farm team is that no one wants to go there (and you can’t blame them). How does Boston sign a star player when they have no assurance that the team will continue building the team around them? The team might have to rely on getting top Contenders players (who have previously been more open to signing to lower-tier teams) like Mag or MuZe among others and fill in around them. The next best option for getting a top player is to sign one off a team that underperformed this year like Marve1 or Michelle off Seoul. Boston managed to collect a few good players on a bad team, and the next step to returning to their former glory is to keep those top players and not let another Striker situation happen. Until the team brings in players to make the team competitive, Boston will keep being viewed as a place for better teams to pick up rising stars.

2019.10.30 10:28 endursgg My roster predictions
Main Tank: SADO Changsik
Off Tank: Poko Bernar
Hitscan DPS: carpe snillo
Flex DPS: Ivy ----
Main Support: FunnyAstro
Flex Support: Boombox Alarm
Reasoning Tanks: We're in the market for a new main tank. Rumors were that we were trying to get OGE, but failed to do so. I think everyone knows that we need someone better than Sado. I have been thinking about who we are going to get as our starter, because I think SADO could be a way better main tank now that we got KDG, and presumably a better roster, so SADO can mesh better and perform better. He has a great Winston. We know this. His Orisa was decent. His Rein was not. People keep saying add Mag. He won't be eligible till the end of the season, and I don't want to suffer with only SADO if he isn't improved. We aren't certain SADO will be better. We need more depth then waiting for someone to be of availability after waiting the whole season just to disappoint. (ahem). I know Mag is a great tank, but heres the way I see it; make him join Fusion Uni. Originally, I would have said get rid of Sado and put Mag on a two way contract on top of getting a nuts main tank, but that is not possible as we now know. We get a great main tank on there, ready to grow into the 2021 roster, and we promote Changsik right now, and Mag would be our only option as BeastHalo has been rumored to go to Toronto for us to get Ivy, which will probably be announced tomorrow, and Changsik would be moved up on the main roster. Hold on, I know Changsik isn't the best, but he's the option I really think is likely. He was never the best, but he was quite servicable in his time in Funi. He could still grow to be a great main tank. Only time will tell.
On a side note, I have been praying for Kaiser to join our team as it would be a perfect fit, him being a better rein than SADO while also being able to speak English and is just a very good and well balanced main tank. I'm still pretty confident we don't get/want Whoru. Maybe he'll be our last flex dps, you never know. But I still think he will go to Dallas. With this money we get from selling him, and I suspect it to be a heavy amount of money, we could get enough money to get Kaiser, and if that is not enough for whatever reason, then CarCar too? That is, if Changsik doesn't join our team. But we will still get good money from selling our inactive players, which we can they use to afford a great pickup whether its dps or tank.
Poko stays. Simple as that. The other option who would presumably be our starter (no offense Poko) will presumably be korean. Obvious options are Fury and Meko. I think Meko is very unlikely and Fury is likely, but also unlikely.. Obviously, he's good friends with Carpe, and this is what Fusion could be spending their big bucks on, but something about me says he probably won't not join, partially in reason to having Bernar waiting on the Funi sidelines. I am going to have to go with Bernar for this one. Not only has
Tucker said that the main reason for Funi is to promote and evolve into talent for the main roster, but it is obvious. Bernar is a pretty damn good off tank and I could see him being top 7 in his role or higher, and while I rate Fury higher, I still think he has a better Roadhog than Poko if needed, and can also play a better
D.va while still being about the same at Zarya (or better?). I don't know about his Sigma, but it shouldn't be a problem, and if it really is, Poko could be there for Sigma. Essentially more flexibility and better at
D.va. Bernar and Changsik could also have that pre-existing synergy with each other and also Alarm and Snillo that would greatly benefit us.
DPS: Carpe is staying for 3 more years, and Snillo will be brought up. Now this is the juicy one. With both our flex dps leaving and us keeping snillo and carpe, we gotta get at least one confirmed, and it probably is Ivy. Ivy needs a new home after Agilities and Mangachu being on Toronto, and we work fine. Ivy was hyped up to be this great player in the start of the season, and I think he was great, but not at Zarya. I think the reason for his "downfall" was more to do with the team and them literally signing whoever (im37) as a last resort. Internal issues. I still think Ivy has the potential to be a top tier flex dps player, but with some caution too. Now for the other one, I suspect them to get two flex dps and I don't know who would be good but I keep thinking that one of our new roster additions could be from the Seoul/Gen.G family due to KDG coming over, and that has been at main tank and flex dps. I was going to go with Glister, but I am confident he'll go to Seoul, especially since the rumors of Fleta going to Shanghai, and we can't get Na1st from Funi because he's underage, even though he's very good. I don't know who else to get for flex DPS, and I don't think we'll only run with Ivy but hey, im expecting an insane pickup later today.
Supports: FunnyAstro is a great lucio. However, I just wonder if another ms would be good, for instance, a better mercy player? (Astro is a fine mercy but idk, that's the only complaint I would have about this support line). A korean ms could be good to pair with Alarm too, like Jecse, though he might go to London or smth. But Astro Alarm is a nuts support line, and we always have Boombox in the back. Speaking of them, we ALL know that Alarm is going to Fusion. It should be a surprise to no one. Some people have said that Boombox could go somewhere to like Houston or something, but he was really good this year and I think he's a great backup. I would have said maybe CarCar to Fusion if it wasn't for Astro, but I think our support line is great.
What are your guys guesses for the roster?

2019.08.29 20:57 Alstroemeriasterax I'm a student who will be studying abroad in 13 months. I'm trying to plan out which cards to apply for.
Current cards: - CarCare One, $400 limit, opened January 2010, Closed October 2011 (Good standing)
- Capital One Journey, $300 limit, opened August 2019
- Discover It Student, $1250 limit, opened August 2019
FICO Score: 754 (FICO 8) via Experian.
Oldest account age: 9 years.
Chase 5/24 status: 2/24
Income: $35,000
Average monthly spend and categories: - dining: $150
- groceries: $150
- gas: $5 (Very Minimal)
- travel: $0 (Will change)
- other: $50 (Bicycle maintenance)
Open to Business Cards: Yes
What's the purpose of your next card? Booking two flights abroad, camera purchase
Do you have any cards you've been looking at? Uber Visa, PenFed Pathfinder
Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? Category spending is great!
Background
I'll be doing a yearlong study abroad in Japan from September 2020 to August 2021. I don’t have much of an established credit history, so I’d like to change that in time for my studies overseas.
Here are main things I’m considering:
- My biggest single trip expense will likely be the flights, so I’m looking for a good card to buy these with. I’ll likely start looking for a departing flight around December or January, once my study abroad plans are finalized. I’ll be booking the return flight significantly later.
- I don’t mind picking up a premium card for this, but I am concerned about breaking even. This is especially true for cards with a travel credit that requires booking a flight directly, rather than through a travel agency. (If I have to use the airline’s site, will the flight’s cost increase outweigh the discounts from a premium card?) I also have doubts about even being approved for them. (Still, that Altitude Reserve looks really nice.)
- I’m also interested in the GE credit for the flights. If I don’t go for a premium card, I’d like to pick up the PenFed Pathfinder, just for this perk.
- I’ll be taking two bags. It seems like quite a few airlines give two bags for free on international flights, but I haven’t researched this in-depth yet.
- I’m concerned that my credit history is too thin to get some of the better rewards cards before I book the departing flight. I’m not averse to picking up a better card while I’m overseas, however.
- Once I’m in Japan, I’d like to have access to several types of cards without a FTF. Right now, I have that somewhat covered through Discover and Mastercard, but I’d like to add a Visa to the mix. (Also, I recently opened a Charles Schwab checking account for their debit card.)
- I likely won’t be using a card very heavily on groceries while overseas. Each of the study abroad programs I’m applying for include meal plans, whether it’s through the host university’s cafeteria or through the homestay option. I do plan to eat out more, trying new foods I can’t easily get in the US.
- I expect my primary mode of transportation will be via bicycle. However, I’ll definitely end up riding a few trains here and there. I won’t even bother trying for a driver’s license.
- Before leaving for Japan, I’m looking at buying a nice camera. I’m interested in getting the extended warranty as well as price protection, although I understand the latter is becoming much rarer. This can also help me hit any SUBs on a single card.
- Beyond the trip, I’m interested in eventually getting into the Chase ecosystem. However, since I won’t get home until August 2021, I have plenty of time to fall back below 5/24 if there are better cards in the short-term.
- Right now, I'm thinking of applying for the Uber Visa and PenFed Pathfinder for the trip itself, then picking up either the CF or CFU to establish a foothold in the Chase ecosystem. I'd probably apply for the Uber Visa around December, then the Chase card after that. I'd go for the PenFed a little later. However, this is a very tentative plan.
- I haven't looked very closely at business cards, but I'm definitely open to using them if they fit my needs well. However, I don't have a business beyond a tiny amount of Ebay selling. I'd only be able to get one of the "Don't ask, don't tell" business cards.
Questions:
- How will my old, closed credit line affect my odds of applying to cards?
- I opened my CarCare One card in January 2010, then closed it in October 2011. When will it fall off my report?
- For applying to Chase, will my closed account push me over the one year mark or will they want to see a year of current credit history?
- How true is it that Japan is still a primarily cash-based society? I’ve read quite a few comments that state this, but I’m not sure if this is still up to date.
- Where cards are accepted, what types of cards are generally viable? This comment from 2016 suggests that Discover is actually my best bet, but is this still the case?
- Can you generally buy Japanese train passes with a credit card? If so, are they generally classified as travel expenditures?
- What type of card compatibility should I expect there? E.g. Should I expect to use chip and pin card, contactless payments, or something else?
- I’ve read that the Uber card can be quirky about its categorizations. How does it generally do with flights through travel agencies?
- This comment mentions that you can overpay to get a negative balance onto an Uber card with a low limit, allowing one to buy pricier flights. Is this something I can do with most cards?
- The PenFed Pathfinder is an AMEX card. Will getting it affect my future SUB chances with them? Is it worth getting anyway?
- Longer term, if I apply for a card while I’m in Japan, would the issuer balk at sending it to an overseas address? I’ll still be maintaining my primary residence in the US, but it would be easier to have it sent directly to me.
- Since I likely won't get too much use out of the non-premium Chase cards while overseas due to their FTF, is it still worth applying for them sooner than later?
- My credit reports are currently frozen. Will this affect seeing any prequalified offers?
- Finally, which cards should I really be considering?
- Any other advice?

2019.03.21 19:45 CookieMonsterFL [Opinion] Cookie's thoughts on the SuperSebring Weekend
Good afternoon guys, this has been a long long time coming in terms of me just posting thoughts on anything from a post standpoint. This should encompass a lot of what i'm feeling pulse-wise with both series and where last weekend put both in my mind. I'd like to say not much has changed, but that would definitely be wrong. There were quite a few things that stood out that either I never thought about or never had the opportunity to compare until now.. I'll prob emphasize parts to make an easier read - so lets dive in, shall we?
The Series
WEC
WEC raced first so lets start with them. I am in
WEC writing this after all. Lets start with the basics: the race was as I expected it to go. Not generally holding my attention as much as the IMSA race did, but I think I enjoyed it more (beyond the Toyota fandom wrinkle) and i'll explain why. While there was an extra class on track for the WEC race, you saw from the collective pro and pro/am field a level of driving etiquette that I haven't seen in a while for a premier race at Sebring. Not to take anything away from the caliber of drivers that liter the midfield of the 12hour race, but when corner workers all are commenting on the difference between sessions just being how much more professional and clean WEC boys are, I think i'm right to notice it.
Further, while we can talk to death about the difference in pace between Hybrids and the Privateer P1's - one thing is clear: these hybrids are just mind-melding-ly quick. I'm serious, every single person - whether there for the first year or their 50th (shout to Ray!) made a comment on the power of those Toyota's and just how much quicker you could see with your own eyes than anything else on the planet barring F1 and maybe Super Formula. The Carcar propositions to reduce speed I understand, but this kind of pace is
noticeable by everyone young and old. Definitely was the most impressive car i've seen at Sebring since the R18's. Beyond that, the privateer P1 battle completely fell by the wayside in terms of my attention - until they started flying off the track or into trouble, then they'd rear their heads on my mind. That right there is where all of our worries and i'm sure the team's themselves are coming from. The lack of excitement and attention to teams that absolutely should be as fast or faster than the Toyotas to give us the fans at the track and at home something to watch. Yes, its BoPing EoT, but at this point WEC can literally reclaim so much lost ground with just getting the privateers pace somewhat matching Toyota's - not corner exit but top speed or better high end torque. idk.
Off shoot, but the temp paddock was perfect for the space at Sebring. Not only did the new pits give extra stuff to look at from the fans if they could get to the wall, but the access you got to the WEC garage was probably better than almost anywhere else. Oh and pit-in for WEC was right in front of a track gate, so you had fantastic pit in views we never had in year's previous.
GTE was fantastic and I really enjoyed the racing standpoint from both classes. Not really too much more to say other than seeing more makes on track is great, and seeing gaps from pretty competitive GTE/GTLM fields was also a departure from the normal
Sunday Saturday GTLM afair.
I loved the more traditional FIA flag rules for their race - less safety cars and more SZ's as well as FCY's for field neutralization for minor incidents felt so much more traditional and fitting for an endurance race. +5 points alone for that (I don't care if you like the wave arounds - it is not a natural policy and creates false advantages which if your a purist... blah blah blah).
IMSA
IMSA had what I can now probably say is a normal Sebring. Which is hilarious because i'd rate Sebring the last 2-3 years being a top 5 race in terms of excitement and results. Lots of action, tons of passing for position (except for prototype classes at the front), and generating potential excitement the entire race.
DPi was a dud. Seriously, while Mazda on fire (lol) provided the flair of randomness, the rest was a Caddy show with the follow-up being the crazy pace flux of the Acura's. CORE seemed solid but looked exactly like a 1-car effort that is still trying to figure out a now defunct race team's car that is the neglected child of a low-motorsport-intelligence OEM giant, and the P2's were just sad. I'm sorry, but WEC for all its bashing had just as boring of a race in P1 as DPi was and that was without late race cautions and a clear lack of competition that IMSA did not suffer. (Semantics between WEC privateers laps down to 3 Caddy's on the lead lap in IMSA so don't PM me that you dweebs - basically mjdiamore... :P)
And yeah, I don't like the wave-around policy in IMSA and their flag-happy SC rules that are there to spice the show up. I get it and its fun, but again, purist? Nah, you earned that gap, I want you to still have some of that advantage if a car dies for 30 sec on track.. no thanks. NASCAR has had debris cautions forever and IMSA had its share after the merger, but cars off-track for 60 seconds don't deserve a SC immediately. That screams intent to neutralize instead of race which is
weird. Alright, moving on, i'm ranting on this now.
But the competition in IMSA cannot be understated. For as much stupid shit the Mazda's get into, they were in touch with the Caddy's until they imploded, and Caddy's tehmselves at least have inter-team compettiion. Won't talk about the P2 elephant, but beyond the lower car count in GTLM versus GTE-Pro, that was a close close fight through the race too. And generic GTD is crazy comment insert here. IMSA just owns the 'healthy series card'
in the US (put that last one in there because reddit).
GTLM was another great great battle with excellent BoP. Ford throwing away a possible win, but who knows with that time left what would have happened. Porsche prove again to clean up after others faulter and snag GTLM while GTD Lambo continues to be there at the end with another win for the OEM. and lulz, GTD is just a crapshoot, need I have to say more?
Crashes
Unlike last year, nothing major happened on track at least from official practices. There were offs and contact, but nothing spectacular like Lap 1 contact or T17 barrier contact like last year in IMSA. Everyone ran a relatively clean race from both series. Cheers to them.
Facilities
Well we knew it was gonna be packed, but man. That was the biggest crowd i've seen at Sebring ever. By Thursday afternoon lots in Green Park were full like on a Saturday morning for race day. Both races had people just jammed in for parking - with some getting towed for boxing people in. Just ridiculous amounts of people. The infield Party Zone was actually way better than I thought it would be - merch tent, stage, food, and pavilion were in about the best place to put it as people camping there weren't long time fans and was mostly road and some grass area where the local police would set up. Not bad and I don't think that really had a huge effect on camping space. There was just that many people.
New bridge is amazing and offers some perspectives never before seen from that part of the track. The hill that aids the ramp to the top is available to stand and sit on, so you get a 40-50 ft height advantage that lets you see well down to T7 and back up to T3-5. Awesome spot and saved so much time walking from Midway to Green Park.
Not enough porta-johns. Holy shit, that is an understatement people. They had less than they had last year in the section by T10 at least anecdotally. Really unfortunate and kept the lines massive almost all day for showers, bathrooms, etc. You really had to plan bowel movements...
Merch
Ok, here is where there is no question: IMSA
KILLED it - WEC
did not. IMSA had about as much merch as i've ever seen in their tents, and even had companies like Guy Harvey commission shirts and sold in separate stands (official SuperSebring performance long sleeve is amazing) so IMSA - ya did good. Even the flags had some new ones with IMSA 50th and a pretty awesome SuperSebring Flag. Can't complain at all - they even made a performance tee with the race weekend logos and art on the back - literally told them about that last year and look!
WEC. What. The. Hell. First time i've ever came ready to buy buy buy WEC and team merch and no one - absolutely no one - had anything for sale. Maybe know a crew and get some that way? Otherwise you were SOL if you wanted anything official and had US dollarydoos to pay for it. Grr. At least they had WEC girls wandering around handing out hats and sunglasses for those willing to participate in a survey... Really WEC i'm just upset I saw so much official gear being worn by everyone that wasn't a fan and felt left out!
The Feeling
Fans that i've met for the first time and regulars that I know by name all said there was a buzz about this event they just had to go. Whether that was the combination, WEC, or just the buzz of race fans that drew them - they showed. Many many many regulars were really happy WEC and especially P1's returned - I can't tell you how many enjoyed 'seeing the big boys back'
It simply cannot be understated what a difference the speed between DPi and P1-Hy is. As much as I talked about how DPi was doing well and how messed up this next 2 years may be,
we all were just overwhelmed with the speed of WEC and just the excitement of seeing something move that fast. If you can get the competition to match the speed, there is a whole helluva lot of potential not just internationally but in the
heart of IMSA-land. For IMSA that too means you can boost these speeds to near Toyota-performance and probably get that
wow factor from fans. Seeing Toyota's passing cars is great, but seeing them have to
defend their position while doing it? That would be WEC 2015 golden age if you can, and i'd just fall in love with DPi if they could do it.
IMSA meanwhile has a solid, solid product that frankly only needs faster DPi's with potential hybrid to be a perfect series. It won't get Le Mans, but damn if it can get close to speeds you can potentially get that invite and be
THE I mean
THE best sportscar series on the planet if WEC doesn't nail these regs and their future championships.
Phew, that was a lot. Now to reread and fix typos and defend terrible points I didn't full think through. I'll be back next year and better see some merch, WEC!! Love you all, and see you at the track.

2018.12.30 19:54 DeleteDVA_BRIG_MERCY Whats the plan for the Aussie , SA and Pacific contenders ?
With most teams being in NA , China having 4 teams , Europe being looked at for investment and Korea being the nest of many future overwatch players , what is the plan for the 3 smaller regions ? With places like Rio , Sydney and Bangkok being possible home cities for season 3 or 4 teams , I'd imagine that their academy teams will being in their regions , but that's about it , all the other teams will be small teams and be backed by regional gaming orgs , which does nothing to guarantee security for the players. These regions already have massively dominating teams (Based Tryhards and SDB are absolutely dominant , like borderline untouchable. Talon is quite good , but they could possibly slip up ) and so what would stop the academy teams from picking up these players and just trashing the region once again ? Also , with the soft regional lock coming into effect , players from this region are absolutely fucked , unless they are so ridiculously high leveled that people pick them other regional talent or Korean talent. Take Pardal (Yes , the one WE helped save from eviction not too long ago). He is a extremely talented player and now that Alemao is gone , he is in contention for best main support in the SA region. He is as good as if not slightly better then a few of the NA contenders main supports (Pardal , Robdab , HelloImHalo and Fire are probably all about the same skill level, while Paintbrush , Insomniaq and CherryRing are a peg down) but why would they pitch pardal if they could pitch any of the names I listed above and not use up a import slot ? (Other then CherryRing , but he is on Skyfoxes , so lmao) So he is probably destined to be stuck in the SA contenders region , and unless he is on the academy team (Which might not even happen , like the team itself exist ) he is going to remain in a extremely uncomfortable situation where he is a overwatch pro , but probably can't make a living off of that. It's a similar situation to what happened in NA with Carcar leaving Second Wind to a Academy team. It's also a case of comfort and stability. It pays better , has better structure and has better visibility , and unfortunately , the tier 2 scene in smaller regions has non of those , even less so then the bigger regions .

2018.04.09 05:04 daksum Relocating to Durham, what are good neighborhoods to buy a house?
My fiancé and I are moving to Durham this August as I have accepted a new job. We are wanting to buy a house but obviously do not know the area very well. We are working on a lower budget (less than 140,000) and have actually found a house in the Forestview Heights neighborhood. Does anyone know anything about this neighborhood? And what are the good and bad areas of Durham or areas that we should focus on trying to find a home? We are a young couple, me (25m) and fiancé (22f) with 1 dog who we want a yard for and 2 cats. We would like to live closer to downtown and I would prefer not to have to long commute to Duke. Our family suggests we rent for a few months but houses are on the market for literally a day and get multiple offers, so I would like some information from people that actually live in the area. If there is already a thread to a similar post please direct me there. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

2017.04.28 15:04 Datangrywookiee Expedition Question
Hello all,
Last night before bed, I was bored and scanning some signals down and I located a site called "The Haunted Yard". I swiftly flew over after changing into my Drake to find out that only smaller ships could pass through the warp gate. No big deal as Ole' Carl (my Carcaral) hasn't been out in space for awhile. So I switch to him and head into the site. Things get a bit hairy but I eventually manage to down all the drones and then it happened. I get a message from the cold recesses of space that activates the expedition "Pulverizing the Pioneers", my first expedition no less. Furthermore, I check the only lootable wreck to find some drone salvage worth over 58 million. I'm ecstatic as I fly back to my adopted home station to secure my loot. Seeing how I had 24 hours to follow up on the expedition, I decided to go to bed and proceed tomorrow after work.
So now my question is this, since things got a bit hairy at one point flying Ole' Carl over there (points at the junker floating in the bay), I would feel better going in with my better equipped Drake. However, I have been unable to locate any information on if this expedition is ship-restricted like "The Haunted Yard" or if I can fly anything I choose.
Any advice? Thanks in advance and stay frosty out there.

2016.06.16 07:23 god_si_siht_sey So I think I have a thing for cars designed in the 80's. Just traded my suzuki TL1000R for this decently clean mx-6 gt turbo
I've had a few 80's very early 90's car that I have loved. Mitsu galant vr4, mk2 supra, mk3 supra, e30, turbo brick... so not very surprising that I came across this car when I had my bike up for trade and the WANT was strong. I had to give up the bike because of an accident last month that will stop my from riding for a good year or two. The bike was much better off then I am. Anyway, came across this guys add while recovering in the hospital. Told him what happened. Sent him pics of the bike with the damage. I asked him if I fixed it with parts that he wants if he would trade straight up. He said yes. So when I got home and was able to work on the bike with some help from friends and I got it up and going again. Needed front fender, dent in the tank fixed, pegs, muffler, radiator, and tail plastic. Under $250 worth of stuff. Took me a few weeks to get it done but the other guy was patient. Enough of the back story on the bike, trade, etc. On to the most fun I've had in a old fwd turbo car.
The wiki page says it has 140 ish hp and a little under 200tq. Its been argued that mazda under rated the carcar and those numbers where to the wheels. This thing is pretty "quick" for what it is. I've owned plenty of cars with more power then that and this thing would pull away pretty hard from those in the 150hp range. Either way I'm already in love with this turd. After some maintance stuff I plan on a few easy mods.
The block and crank were originally designed for diesel which makes them pretty freaking strong. Strong factory rods with hypereutectic pistons. The stock ft2 motor puts out a sad 145whp and 200tq on stock 8psi with a ridiculously safe 7.9 to 1 compression ratio. So mazda made sure it was a safe motor. And because of this the motor takes bolt ons pretty easy and remains safe for the extra 6psi that people recommend for the smaller bolt ons.
I plan on getting a front mount kit, short ram intake, chipped ecu, out the fender down pipe with new o2 sensor and wide band, and a short throw shifter (dat massive oem throw). Which normally puts the car into the 225whp and 280tq range. This gets the car into the low 13's traction permitting.
Down the line i would probably buy a brand new head (about $300) and have some port work done since this is the major hold uo on power for these(yes i know about the FE3 motor swap). Then a holset hx35 turbo and tubular manifold, 750cc e85 injectors, megasquirt for tuning, arp head studs, block milled for higher compression, and a lsd to help on putting power down and help with that massive tq steer it has. At this point it should be putting down over 400whp. Of course weels and lowering are in the plan as well.
All Internet speculation of course. Got to keep myself busy and entertained while out of work and recovering.
The car needs a little love. Rear brakes are terrible, afm might need replaced. It has a little studder down low until 2500rpm. And lastly a driver cv axle.
On the opposite end it has a lot of good stuff and a few cool tech bits that I would have never expected from a 80's car. The car sat for 17 years in a garage and when the P.O. bought it he ended up having a new rebuilt engine and turbo in it. Paperwork to prove it. So 21k miles on the f2t engine. The car is rust free minus one spot that I plan on having fixed. The electronic suspension dampening still works surprisingly. You can actually tell the difference between normal and sport. Another cool thing I found out while messing with it is it has oscillating center air vents...
The car needs a very good detail in and out but I think I came out way ahead on this trade.
Some pics. Top is after a light engine detail and new intake cone filter with adapter that came off my old mk3 supra. Surprised it fit perfectly.
http://m.imgur.com/a/uMRzJ Pics of the bike in question. I had just got done changing the bike from the red too the blue. Red before the wreck.
http://m.imgur.com/a/JpVm9 After the wreck...
http://m.imgur.com/a/M8wzZ So in other words i need to heal quicker and start working again asap...
