Commuting 30 ish highway miles to work. I am looking for a sub 5k car (I can find deals, etc.) And I am mechanically handy, so I can deal with mechanical issues.
Criteria: Insurance not insane Somewhat fun Ideally manual, good with autos Fuel efficient Somewhat reliable Ideally 23+MPG
Cars I've considered: C4 Corvette (insurance is way too high, even though I found a good cheap one) Honda Civic (considering, not sure which) Lexus (open to anything, needs to be fuel efficient) Mazda Miata (fun, but the prices are just too crazy to really justify, idk. Still open to one) Old Nissans, such as the 280, 300, etc. Need something fuel efficient enough to justify

I just wanted to get owners takes on what would be best for something that's reliable and gets good gas mileage. I do a lot of long distance driving (commute daily is 36 miles one way, I drive to another city almost 200 miles away and back like every other weekend).

1991 300SD 6 cyl. w/ automatic, 180k miles. Lots of repairs/maintenance done recently. $4000
1993 300TD w/ automatic, 277k miles. Lots of maintenance done recently. $7200
1985 300TD w/ automatic, 154k miles. Needs rear window & front seat upholstery. $6300
1980 240D w/ automatic, 40k miles. Needs A/C repair (I'm in Texas) $4700
1982 300D w/ automatic, 149k miles. Was "restored" recently. $9500
1983 300D w/ automatic, 151k miles. Rebuilt title. $4000
1985 300D w/ automatic, 131k miles. "Runs good, handles well" $2835
1983 300SD w/ auto, 150k. Not much info $3000

2023.06.10 04:27 _theWoodOne Noisy CT 36 AC ?

I have a CT 36 bought new two years ago. Picked up a CT 36 AC second hand from a guy along with Planex and several sanders. Package deal.
The CT 36 is couple years old and wasn’t used much, but they weren’t highway miles. Owned a painting company and used by his crew that 100% didn’t know what they were doing. When I got it, the HEPA filter was backwards in its basket, and, also not in the unit. Fired it up first time and drywall dust puffed out like a cartoon.
Anyway, I took it completely apart and cleaned all the dust. Put back together works good as new. AC works great, speed control good, no leaks, new filter, all is good.
But, it’s loud. Well, it’s louder than my CT 36.
The CT 36 is completely sealed where the auto clean mechanism goes. Because of the AC apparatus, is there additional sound getting out?
Like I said, works great. Strong. No issues. Just a bit louder. Is this normal? Anyone have both and notice a difference in sound?

2023.06.10 03:18 feedmittens BMW dealer says they don't allow test drives on the highway

I was going to test drive a used BMW at a real franchise BMW "Center of Excellence". I am really sensitive about car shaking at high speeds so I wanted to drive it on the highway instead of just local slow-going roads.
My salesperson said that they do not allow test drives on the highway because their "insurance would not allow it." They insisted this is just a thing they don't allow.
I have bought many cars (US Northeast) in many years and ALWAYS test drive them at both low and high speeds. I've bought at BMW dealers. I have never ever been told this before.
Am I crazy or is this a thing?
The salesperson also said that if it shakes at high speed after I buy it and they can't fix it, then I could get my money back with the Lemon Law, which I am skeptical about...

Side note: While I was waiting for my salesperson I witnessed a service tech walk up to a waiting customer (sales and service share a waiting room while the dealership is renovating) and tell her that she needed brakes and then said that they do not do just pads on "newer" cars (hers is 7 years old) anymore and HAVE to do both pads and rotors. Is this a new BMW thing that I've never heard of??

2023.06.10 02:54 usa4cc Acceleration & Shudder Issue: 2022 Nissan Rogue 1.5L Turbo

TL;DR Has anyone experienced intermittent "judder" or jerking with the 2022 Rogue Turbo while driving at very low speeds? The issue happens more often than not. Is this normal or should I take my car to the dealer?
I have a 2022 Rogue SV AWD, which I bought new fifteen months ago. Lately it's been shaking when driving at low speeds, at least some times; it's a little inconsistent but at this point is happening more often than not. Basically, it feels like the car is moving backwards for a split second. It happens mostly when I'm accelerating from a stop especially when I need to accelerate slowly bc of traffic, and also when the car is moving at very low speeds. If I'm in a parking lot or in stop and go traffic and trying to move 10 MPH the car will consistently jerk back and forth at varying intervals of time. Believe this has happened a few times when accelerating at faster speeds as well, say while on a hill, but need to confirm that; primarily an issue when driving at around 7-14 MPH.
A second issue is that it seems to be very bumpy, but not when driving on the highway; like sometimes the road will look completely smooth but it feels like the road is very bumpy. This seems to happen when I'm driving in town, at say 15-35 MPH. When I bought the car a year ago, it was very very smooth. This might be normal and I'm just noticing it more but it would make sense that it could be related to the issue above. Both of these seem to be the "judder" caused by the Nissan JATCO CVT transmission even though this car is supposed to have the updated JATCO CVT-X which uses a chain instead of a belt and has 30% less friction apparently; in theory, it should reduce the judder issue because you have less heat being generated. This link from Nissan for a previous Rogue (and similar bulletins exist for other Nissan vehicles with CVT) says: "The customer reports a transmission judder (shake, shudder, single or multiple bumps or vibration)." https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/SB-10075090-5448.pdf. Shaking/shuddering and multiple bumps or vibration describes what I am experiencing.
Finally, when I'm on the highway, it seems like at least sometimes I have to push the accelerator more than I should for the car to accelerate. I've read similar issues online so it's possible I'm imagining this. But what happened today was more serious and freaked me out: I was in a slow moving lane (possibly 35 but probably 45 MPH) and tried to accelerate to safely switch lanes; the car in the lane over was definitely going faster but I had ample distance, so I switched lanes and immediately accelerated. Eventually, I was FLOORING THE GAS PEDAL and desperately waiting for what felt like two or three seconds for my car to move faster, so the car behind me wouldn't have to hit their brakes (which they either did or almost had to). I've heard there is a thing called "turbo lag" but is it actually this bad? If I'm already driving 45 MPH I don't see why flooring the gas pedal should take two or three seconds for the car to drive faster. It's basic physics: the car is already moving so there is much less friction. FWIW, I was driving the car in Auto mode, which is how I always drive; ECO mode IMHO on this car isn't safe bc there are times when you need that extra power like merging onto a freeway and the acceleration on ECO mode is very slow. Also, I don't think I was experiencing "Limp Mode" and I wasn't using ProPilot Assist so it's not a cruise control safety feature. I try to drive safely and usually don't accelerate when changing lanes as much as today, so maybe this is normal and I just haven't experienced this before. But in the past, I've had decent acceleration on the highway without depressing the pedal nearly as much; by the time I was flooring it I would have expected the vehicle to be going very fast very quickly, since the car was already going 45 MPH. It was basically accelerating at a snail's pace or at least felt that way.
From everything described here, it seems like an issue but I'm hesitating to take it to the dealer for two reasons:

I'm a recent college graduate and this is my first car. I've heard horror stories about dealers ripping people off and while I take it to the dealer for maintenance, I'm a little concerned that they might charge an exorbitant diagnostics fee which I would need to pay if the problem was deemed normal.
I've recently tried to use the brake as little as possible when parking, meaning holding the accelerator at very low speeds. I don't think this is the case, but could this be normal for the Turbo engine and/or Nissan CVT? Specifically the first issue: That you can't drive at very low speeds without the car shuddering/shaking back and forth. Is there anyway this is normal because you can't push the accelerator very slowly on these vehicles? It could also be an ECM (Engine Control Module) thing, where because I've adjusted how I drive at low speeds the ECM has to be reprogrammed. Not sure whether that is something that will happen automatically or if taking it to the dealer would be the best course here as well.

I basically want to know am I crazy or is there actually something wrong with my car? Seems like it could be a transmission issue, Turbo variable ratio issue, or Mass Airflow Sensor, but maybe it's completely normal. Comments from someone with the new 2022 or 2023 Turbo would be especially welcome. Thank you!!!

2023.06.10 02:09 No-Pension7575 Confused to what I should upgrade first

My current pc build is:
Ryzen 7 2700x (PBO enabled thru Ryzen master and bios) NZXT Kraken X52 240mm RTX 2060 VENTUS XS 6G OC (Auto Peformancing tuning ON) 32GB G.SKILL RAM 3200(XMP enabled) 1tb hdd 500gb ssd Corsair CX 550W 80 plus bronze
note: I am a competitive gamer so quality usually doesn't matter to me other than a few certain options that I may choose medium over low.
At the time of building this pc, it was 2020 and so I was using an online guide at the time. I saw the benchmarks for the 2060 working with 2700x to be more than 200 in certain games on high quality and since I like playing on Low most of the time I would expect a bit more. Ultimately building the pc the frames were good, but they were not benchmark good like I would see online with the same builds. No OC on the GPU/CPU would even remotely get me close to the benchmarks I saw.
I am now considering upgrading some of my parts, especially my GPU and CPU. Rn the market isn't horrible and I was looking at the RX6600 XT or the RX 6650 XT as my next GPU upgrade selling my old one to cover most of the cost of the new GPU. For my CPU I want to be able to get high fps and I sometimes do the occasional streaming on Twitch. I am thinking of getting the Ryzen 5 5600x since it is on sale and was hoping it would boost my gaming performance along with streaming at a constant 1080P/936P.
If you guys could please help me out with which path I should upgrade first and knowing my circumstances, I wanna be able to game at high FPS usually on competitive settings, and stream from time to time, it would be helpful. The new CPU or GPU isn't set so if there is a better option for a better price please let me know.

So, my co-worker, “Alan” and I were scheduled to work the bar yesterday, a Thursday night. He was scheduled to work through volume and I was scheduled to close the bar. Because it was so slow, our manager cut him a few hours into the shift, at about 6:30 p.m. (shift started at 4). He split the cash tips in half and left. Keep in mind, on Thursdays, there normally is not 2 bartenders scheduled because it’s a relatively slower day. I was tending to the bar and service while Alan was here and he was mainly doing cleaning projects that our manager wanted him to do. From 8:30-10:30 the bar got fairly busy, and our sales for the night were about 1150. Normally, when there is two bartenders, we split the credit card tips in half. However, I decided to use the auto-distribute system on the tip portal, meaning that tips are distributed by amount of time clocked in. I did this because I worked through volume and ended up fully cleaning and stocking the bar, meaning I left at 1 a.m. while he left at about 7 p.m.. This means he only got $35 of the credit card tips, which, if you include the $15 he got in cash, means he walked away with about $50 for working 3 hours and only cleaning bottles.
He is very mad, and this is not the first time I had trouble with Alan, as he has complained to co-workers and myself about working with me. I know for a fact that there is a group chat with my co-workers that I’m not in where he bashes me regularly. Before he got promoted to being a bartender, we were pretty good friends and hung out often. He’s been bartending for about a month and a half and this is his first time bartending. I’ve been bartending for 6 months. Am I in the wrong in this situation? I feel as though I tipped him out properly. If he had stayed through volume he definitely would have received half of the credit card tips and a good deal more in cash tips. But he was gone, and it wasn’t my fault that he left. The manager cut him. Did I break a taboo? AITA here?

Second mp9 has broken stock connection and stock is para-corded from previous owner.
Has been taken apart to get other mp9 operational. CQB bolt carrier and regular bolt carrier Details:
Shoots above my current field limit (1.7 J) (with .25g bbs and above) even with the lowest psi possible to actuate the bolt. I believe it has the CQB nozzle but may need the other cqb base (if there's a difference) from wiitech to bring fps down. Regardless I believe one of my reducers may work.
Green gas mags with current long mag set up was 1.5J with .32g bbs (haven't tested in Summer weather)
tapp mag may need a little work, as feeding through the tube is not perfect
In parts alone, it is worth over $700, but please send me an offer. Will bring to swap meet on request. Will consider trades or negotiating!

- Bought off of hop-up App. Gun supposedly was worked on/upgraded by "Georgia Airsoft". Received it and was disappointed with the amount of rust - presumably from the humid environment in Georgia. Lost interest in it based on the sheer weight
- Worked last time I shot it though it had the notorious "jamming" by smashing semi... It's an easy swap to auto, shoot, and back to normal but still annoying.

Hi all,
Happy Friday!
This is sold
Up for sale is this Colt 20" M16A1 Upper. I'm not the original owner, so I can't speculate on round count. It has some salt but is in great condition considering its age. It is estimated to be 1970's production based on the markings.

The Colt M16A1 upper has a teardrop FA, no shell deflector, and has a boxed C proof mark forward of the dust cover. The front pivot hole is regular diameter (.250), not large pin.
The 20" Colt pencil barrel is marked "C MP CHROME BORE" and has an A1 flash hider. This barrel has a 1/12 twist based on forge markings. The FSB is marked "C" as well. The clamshell handguards are in good condition with no missing teeth
The Colt BCG has a "C"-marked carrier and "MPC"-marked Bolt and is semi-auto with unshrouded firing pin.
