2023.06.10 05:11 Slow-Yesterday-2278 Am I wrong?
For context, I am the youngest of five children. I have a 33 yr old sister, 32 year old sister, and a 29 year old sister, and a twin brother. I am currently 22. All of my life, my second oldest sister (T) has always been a bully. Growing up she would hit me or say the most outlandish things to me and when I would respond or lash out she would lie and say she did nothing wrong and that I’m overreacting. Her and all of my other siblings including my mom would then group together and talk about me and try to tell me why I’m wrong rather than correcting her behavior especially since she’s so much older than me. Now examples of times where in recent years she has behaved totally unacceptable would be when I was I was in high school and I was being bullied and harassed very badly by a group of girls who were spreading rumors about me around school calling me a hoe. As if that wasn’t traumatic enough my sister felt the need to call me all sorts of hoes and sluts at home and consistently sexualize me and say things that suggested I was overly sexually active which isn’t true. I never commented on it or retaliated because I was so depressed with everything going on at school and it honestly made me feel worse knowing my own sister felt that way about me. I wasn’t even having sex I was literally a virgin and I was just so tired of everyone’s assumptions and constant verbal attacks. Not to mention, she body shames me. One time I was trying on this dress and she looks at me and says you should wear shape wear and I’m like no thanks I just want to be comfortable so she persist I need to wear to shape wear and I remain polite and say I’m not interested. She then snaps at me and goes well you look sloppy and you need to put it on to look presentable because nobody wants to see you looking sloppy. So at this point I lose my shit because I’m so tired of her constant nagging. She then goes on and lies to my other sister who knew of nothing that happened and said “she just cussed me out and all I suggested was shape-wear” she never tells the full truth. Not to mention, this past summer after my nieces birthday party, her and the rest of our younger cousins were playing the video game and my niece got upset and was kinda of throwing a fit and my sister took it upon herself to literally snatch my niece by her arm and scream in her face. So I intervened and yelled at my sister because her behavior was unacceptable she could’ve seriously harmed that child with the force she used not to mention that isn’t her daughter it’s my others sister daughter. She then lied to everyone and said she didn’t yank her up and scream in her face and that I was overacting. Fast forward this past Tuesday I came home from work and my sister was over the house. I greeted her and sat down to eat my dinner. So as I’m eating, my sister looks at me and screams “can you stop eating your food so loudly your getting on my nerves and I’m sick of it” so I ask her to please leave me alone because I hadn’t done anything to her. She then started to berate me and scream in my face that she could say whatever she wanted so I get up to leave and as I’m leaving the room she starts screaming at me that I’m crazy and unhinged and needs therapy mind you she started with me first. So I told her it was funny that she’s always judging me for struggling with anxiety and depression yet she takes mood stabilizing medication with no forms of therapy and that pills aren’t going to help her. So at this point I’m extremely emotional because this type of behavior has been occurring my whole life and I just snapped and told everyone about themselves. I brought up all the times she had called me hoes and all the times she put me down and how it’s not okay and she immediately went into victim mode and lied and said she never said that. Then my mom takes her side and says I’m lying on her which just ticked me off. My mother is also an asshole. She never did anything to protect me as a child. She never stopped my sister from bullying me and she’s always invalidated my feelings. My mom even went as far as to tell me the things I’ve been through weren’t trauma when I was released from the hospital for attempted suicide two years ago then whenever I bring up how her saying that hurt me she would say “I never said that, you can’t think properly because your mentally ill and your thoughts are mixed up” they treat me like I’m stupid or slow and can’t understand what’s being done to me. They’re gaslighting me. My mom even went as far as to befriend one of my high school bullies and when I confronted her about it her only response was “I need to leave” while fake crying. She never explained why she needed to befriend someone who harassed me. Also I’m the only child out of all of her kids that has stepped up to the plate to help her. I buy groceries pay bills buy household items things none of her other kids did when living at home and it’s never enough for her. She complains about the kind of groceries I buy or constantly hounds me for money when I’m only working a part time job right now because I just graduated from college. She didn’t even come to the ceremony or say I’m proud of you. She completely drains me of my money I can’t even save for law school like I need too. Not to mention, my mother never protected me from my brother who was molesting me when we were children she knew because I told her but always let me take the fall and get yelled at by older sisters for being mean to my brother as a child but I was frustrated that I was being violated and no one would help. After so much abuse and mistreatment from them I’m starting to hate them which is sad. I came to the conclusion that no amount of talking with them will help because they see no behavior with their actions it’s always me against everyone. I want to leave but I’m not financially stable right now I’m just over them and I’ve wiped my hands clean.

2023.06.10 05:10 Sweaty_Plankton_5204 Existential
A dude plagued with the desire to cut ties with everything, not dramatically— but rather seriously. Not reality, but familial, childhood, memories, friends, home, everything that comes with it. Not out of impulsivity, but necessity.
He never knows whether this is the right decision, but feels it is. Is it cowardly?
His mom has terminal cancer. She needs someone to take care of her in a system that doesn’t care about her. Or him, or his siblings. He knows she’s just a hurt child who never grew up, she was never taught how to love her children correctly. He rationalizes her accidentally killing his brother. he rationalizes watching his mom abuse his father and then get him incriminated for it.
He rationalized the abusive boyfriends brought in and out, and not being able to do anything at a young age. He rationalized the moment when he could have saved her from an injury but had to protect his future instead . He rationalized finding the crack pipe and being smart enough to know what it is. He rationalized his dad smoking crack in front of him He rationalized finding needles. He rationalized witnessing sexual misconduct. He rationalized systemic abuse as a result of being born into a type of family prone to systemic abuse. He’s rationalized the pain that comes with knowing a family member couldn’t take care of you as a traumatized child. He’s rationalized the feeling you get when you realized the two people who are supposed to love you the purest, don’t love you at all. The neglect. At least one person is supposed to know what you look like when you’re sick. Know when you’re lying about if you’re okay. What if they don’t fight for your health? What if they don’t even know how to take care of their own?
He’s fought very strongly and very quietly for someone rationalizing so much pain. He’s made some mistakes and he makes them right the best he can. Statistically, someone such as him should be in a lot worse circumstances. He shouldn’t be able to meet you at every level. He’s raised other kids most of his life, and parents. He’s aware of every single issue present in his life, and has only two hands and so much time to balance between everything
He truly does deserve more. He takes on everyone’s problems. He can handle them, why can not one person handle his? Why does know one know how to help him? He’s hyper-vigilante, he knows what therapy does, he knows what meds do, and he knows truly neither of those are the solution. He knows it’s situational, he doesn’t need advice or suggestions, he knows what will fix everything one way or another. He always finds his solution. He finds it quietly, and in peace by himself. People have their theories. They think he’s possessed by greed, or he seeks power. That is because he seeks money.
He does not seek money for power. His good character is always stifled as his bad character has to take over in order to survive in reality. He HAS to be emotionless in a version of reality filled with pain. Endless dark realizations. Truly bad people and family. It’s very hard to see the positive side alone for 21 years. Always fighting to be positive in a world filled with negativity. A person can only go so long without getting a break. He knows nobody can truly see, nor can he truly ever express it as it only brings him back further. He knows there is no solution to this pain truly. No 100% fix. He knows the happiest path is one where he makes a ton of money really young, and can use that foundation to fix relatively every single other problem in his family. Positively change the course of his entire family. He knows that’s super confident. Maybe arrogant. All it does is set the bar higher for him, shoot for the stars. He feels very alone in a place where he can’t even fully describe the complexity of his situation, thus have anyone be able to give him empathy for it. He’s yet to meet a single person that can relate to him on his deepest level. It hurts so much. A million hugs would not help it, only provide temporary relief. He doesn’t know how to help himself. Everyone makes him feel as though he’s an idiot, or makes him feel inconfident, and with no stable baseline ever established he doesn’t know where he lies. Deep down he knows he’s smart, but is punished by society for being too confident, or too cocky. If he plays humble he seems as though he comes from a different walk of life, thus attracting and meeting people whom may never be able to understand him, or see him. It’s a paradox.
He is trapped in the vortex with connections and emotional ties wreathing deep throughout his home state. He could never escape here logically or statistically. He’d always come across someone, somewhere in the surrounding few states, or a connection to someone. He wants no ties. He wants an escape. He doesn’t know where to run to. He’s been searching for a long time. He feels like no one can hand him a lifeline that will truly help him fully. He desperately needs help but he would never ever ask. Too many complications and too much complexity. Who could he ask? Who the hell can he trust?
I wouldn’t call what he does overthinking. I think it’s a healthy amount of overthinking given his situation. He needs to find a way out. He cannot endure this pain his entire life. He’s felt the deepest heartbreaks. He’s experienced death, murder, violence, loss, grief, failure, regret, shame, he has experienced every complex emotion, and the most painful of true realizations. When will it ever get better? Can someone ever forget those deepest pains? Can anything ever feel good again? Can anything ever feel as exponentially good as it has bad? Can any path feel like the truest rightest one when he has a change of heart every day? Can any path feel like the right path when he’s capable of viewing life from every lens positive and negative?
What does this young man do?
He never tells anyone so that no one hops into his world. He wrote this with raw emotion, and tried his best to jot everything out but there is still so so so so so much pain to the story that maybe even a lifetime wouldn’t be able to tell. Everyone says stop being a victim, what do you do when you are a victim? Can you be a victim and ever make it out? Is he a victim? As a man is he supposed to suffer and know he deserves better but not chase it? How can you stop the abuse in a world that silences you when you have no power? No leverage?
How do you get that leverage to protect yourself when every attempt you make is stifled due to poor judgement?
There are so many bad people in the world and he can never separate the good and the bad. Everyone is good, but just hurt to him. He feels inclined to help the hurt, but it drags him down. What does he do

2023.06.10 05:10 alpha_lfa ACER warranty support for Chromebook issues
Does Acer really not cover RMA/warranty service shipping? I have an Acer Chromebook CB317-1H that was purchased last summer (about a month left on warranty now). It has had an ongoing issue for the entire purchase period where it intermittently crashes/freezes/hangs and either shuts down or requires a hard power-off. Intermittently here is about once a week with normal usage. Upon restart it can usually restore the previous session - minus any incognito windows of course. This is mostly an obnoxious annoyance. However, for some percentage of these crashes (maybe 10% - once every month or two or three depending on usage it seems) ChromeOS is corrupted, won’t boot, and requires a reinstall from USB, loosing anything that’s stored locally and not backed up to Google, including any crostini container data and configuration. This has happened about 5 times so far. My suspicion was that there’s some bad sector of memory somewhere and being a device with only 4GB of memory, I hit that memory sector regularly, leading to the crashes and under certain circumstances the crash state renders the OS un-bootable and forces the reinstall. But this was just a conceptual guess. I have performed the ChomeOS built-in diagnostics and everything passed, including the memory. After the last time it crashed and forced a reinstall a few weeks ago, I figured I’d contact support and see about an RMA. They gave me the info and instructions to send it to them, but it seems like I’ll be on the hook for it. Given how lame that seems, that the memory passed the diagnostics, and that it takes a week or two of regular use to trigger a crash and longer to trigger an OS corruption, I worry they’ll just take a quick look, see nothing wrong and either send it back to me or hit me with some fees to send it back to me. Am I being unjust to Acer here or does this ring true? This device was cheap and is so low-end I’m weighing the possibility of getting stuck spending money to fix something that may not get fixed and is barely worth it anyway.

2023.06.10 05:08 Kooky-Split-1353 I have committed the unforgivable sin. I need confirmation.
On April 29th of this year, I had committed the one sin that would cost me my eternity, if I ever had it at all to begin with.
The reason I believe this is because after thinking about this long and hard, I feel nothing but emptiness. But before I get to the details, let me tell you my story before that.
I was raised Christian my whole life, on the belief of Once Saved Always Saved. One time, when I was in school, I approached one of my teachers and I asked how to be saved. He told me to recite a prayer, a prayer which I now realize is non-biblical and does absolutely nothing in the long run. But I think I was saved for real when I heard news about the world possibly ending on September 23, 2017. It was after that, I decided to be baptized. And I was. I felt the need to preach the good Word of God. But I feel like immediately after I got my first phone and allowed that kind of access to the internet 24/7, things started going sideways.
I began hanging out with the wrong people online, and I started looking at things I shouldn’t have. After a while, I stopped praying, thinking that maybe I was too dirty to be forgiven. I now realize that was a lie from the enemy. The only times I did pray was when I was about to eat, but it was only in my head, never out loud since I didn’t know how to put it into words. I also prayed every time we traveled, and I prayed when my cat had urinary problems. I looked up videos about the Rapture and Hell every now and then, I even looked up the Locusts in Revelations one time after seeing a scene with locusts in a movie.
But still, overtime I spent more time looking at my phone, scrolling through social media, especially YouTube, with the occasional religious video popping up. One of them was a video about the unforgivable sin.
One night, I was looking at an article about an actor who had a past on Reddit. And all of a sudden, I just started crying thinking about all the things I’ve done in my life. And I remember thinking some thoughts that were telling me to curse God. Of course, I never did any of those. I didn’t realize it until now, but I believe that was the Spirit turning me over to a reprobate mind.
Still, time passed, and my faith began to waver and I began to indulge more time in sinful things. To the point where I stopped saying “God forgive me.” every time I finished doing them. And every time I found a comment in a YouTube video about preaching the good Word, I remember getting annoyed because it had little to nothing to do with the video. At first, it came out as “Not now, brother.” to eventually “Go away.” and “No one cares.” It wasn’t until thinking about it that I realize these comments, and the occasional songs, ads, and videos were signs from God to turn around and repent before it’s too late.
On April 20th, we had a blackout. And me, having just finished watching something scary, was absolutely terrified. If only I had just remembered to pray, maybe then I would’ve restored my faith. But stupid me, even after the power was restored I still never prayed. I continued acting out, talking to an invisible audience. Saying curse words all the while, eventually actually becoming comfortable with saying the Lord’s name in vain.
On April 27th, my mother and brother had to leave for an archery tournament while my father had to work over the weekend. I was by my lonesome for four days straight. I watched movies with emotional scenes where the love interest was angry and rejects the protagonist. And I began to imagine myself in the position of the love interest and Jesus in the place of the protagonist. I even played out scenes in my head where I would say I become an atheist. And then eventually out loud, I would rehearse what I would want to say in front of my church, telling them that I regret my baptism because I’ve done so much wrong I put it to open shame, and that all the mission trips are just wastes of time and money. I even said that Christianity was just propaganda drilled into my head. On April 29th, it was all over. I was sitting in my room, looking at my phone, watching negative things when all of a sudden, I got the thought to look up if God was a monster, and when I got results, I agreed with them. I broke down crying and began thinking about how my life was apparently wasted, and about my loved ones before me who apparently died for nothing, and then out loud and in tears I said “If there is a God, then He is a monster.” I don’t know why I looked it up or why I said it, but I guess I just wanted to give myself an excuse to cry or be angry for the sake of angry. Looking back, I should’ve stopped what I was doing and called my mom to remind me of the blessings He gave our family. After that, I went to sleep and didn’t think about it for the next few days.
On May 12th (I think), something in my head reminds me of what I said about God, I looked up “Is calling God a monster blasphemy?” And when results said yes, I got scared and cried and begged for Him to return. The day afterwards, I felt emotionally numb. I began to look up videos about apostasy, thinking maybe that’s what I did, but as the days went by I began to piece it all together, remembering what I did and what I said. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that what I did was either the result of the Devil putting a thought in my head, or of my own will.
So, that is my story. Tell me what you think and give me confirmation. And, please, take this story as a warning. Stay close to God, stay on the path.

2023.06.10 05:06 Clear-Waltz8123 I hate being dumb
I always thought I was at least average, I have decent in the high classes... Yet I am still a fucking dumbass. I can't understand any game I play, and movie I watch, or any person I talk to. I was just trying to have a fun time with my friends on Elden ring, and I got called multiple variations of "worthless" and "stupid" at least 50 times. This is why I enjoy having no friends, I don't have to burden them with my stupidity. I want to die. I plan to kill myself after high school, the thought of it is just pure happiness to me now, it is peaceful.

2023.06.10 05:01 The_Alloquist [A Lord of Death] - Chapter 64 (Sorore)
[←Chapter 63] [Cover Art] [My Links] [Index] [Discord] [Subreddit] [Chapter 65→] In a rare moment, Sorore was actually having a nice dream, a normal one, one could even say. She was back home, in that moderately seized house in Erratz, laying on her mother’s lap. She could even hear the gentle sound that the needle made as it went in and out of the cloth. It was peaceful, pleasant, surrounded by familiar sound and smells, though her sight was blurry and confused.
It was not to last, as the sound of rushing water overtook all else, until she was forced awake by its unrelenting pace. When she sat up, rubbing her eyes in the broad bed, she released that it wasn’t the sound of water, nor was it relegated to her dreams. There was a commotion outside people talking in hushed but harsh tones.
Neither Lillian, nor Aya were within the room, and she wondered if they were having an argument. That wouldn’t be good - she’d watched them have the spat earlier, and that dispute didn’t need much worsening. Sorore crept to the door to the outer hallway - she loved how they slid to create whole new rooms. It was something she’d have to think about more she decided as she pulled it open and realised several things at once.
One, there were a whole lot of armoured figures in the hallway, at least four, maybe half a dozen. Two, the balcony door was open, and Lillian was currently arguing with one of them, Aya standing by looking like a mining explosive had gone off right next to her. Three, her brother and Niche had just emerged out of the room beside, and Niche was about to draw his sword at the sudden intrusion.
For a moment, she panicked, her mind going completely blank. Her mind raced with visions of bloody aftermath, and a chase through the city, back to the dinner she’d had with all those nice people.
“Oh, hello!” she blurted, drawing the surprised stares of several of the men, “who might you be?”
There was an instant of shocked silence between all parties.
“Nobody do anything!” called the man who was out on the porch, “We are representatives of the sand-shell legion, on behalf of the matriarch of the Eisen. We have come to retrieve her granddaughter.”
Niche lowered his hand from his sword belt, but Sorore could tell that he was ready to fight on a moment’s provocation. She also noticed that Kieren, in the same gown she’d worn to the square was standing in the stairwell. The woman looked so nervous Sorore thought she might fall over and down the stairs.
“Let’s move to a less cramped area,” said the captain, in a tone that brook no argument.
Eventually, it was sussed out, though not without considerable resistance on part of the paladins, that they were to meet in the great hall. As they sat, they were brought simple drinks of milk and honey, flavoured with something else that Sorore could not quite place. The two paladins looked like pacing cats, constrained on their chairs, arms crossed and eyes hard.
“Under no circumstances can we give one of ours into you custody,” said Lillian, locked in a match with the captain.
“Within the city, you are under the authority of the guard, no matter who you are. If the matriach has sent for this girl, then we have our orders.”
“As do we, captain,” said Niche, “to protect and guide each of these young women and… man, unto the holy lands of Angorrah.”
One of the guards flanking the captain whispered something in his ear.
“She’s not going to like it,” the captain said, then heard something else.
“Very well. Bloodshed before the Festival would be unwise. We have enough of that already. Right then, one of you paladins, assuming you are who you say you are, shall come with us and the lady to be received by the Eisen. I cannot say it’s likely you will have a happy reception. They will expect you to come unarmed.”
The paladins were bristling at the implied threat, and several hands were already dangerously close to their sword belts. Sorore gripped the mug that she was being offered, before Aya sat up and proclaimed to the group.
“Leave two of your men with us, then,” she said.
The captain’s eyes furrowed.
“I don’t wish to second guess you, my lady,” he said, “but why would I do that?”
“Trust,” Aya said, with a side long look at Lillian, “simple. If you leave your men with us, you can’t simply waltz off with me and my friend. Plus, it gives us men who know, and can quickly get around the city, so they can find you whenever they need to.”
The captain considered, and nodded.
“Very well my lady. Two men will be left for the disposal of your party members. But you shall have to come with us, immediately.”
“Me as well,” said Lillian.
“As you wish,” he said, “but you must disarm yourself. That is non-negotiable.”
Lillian was fuming, but unbuckled her belt and handed her armaments to Niche. The legionaries surrounded them, and departed with them out the front of the pyramid. They were left in front of the roaring fire, Kieren sitting beside them holding a considerably more full glass of the amber coloured alcohol.
“You said that this-” Niche began, his face reddened, “you sold us out!”
“Sold you out?” said Kieren incuriously as she swirled the glass around, “sold you out?”
The woman slammed down the glass on one of the nearby table, somehow not breaking it in the process.
“Maybe, you should of told us that you had the granddaughter of Aystara godsdamned Eisen in your retinue? No, forgot that little detail?”
“Okay, can we get this over with?” said Frare, picking at his nails.
“What?” said both the paladin and the trader, staring at the temerity of the youth.
“Blah, blah, we’ve all kept things from eachother,” he said, “so let’s all move on. Who is this ‘Aystara’? Why is she important?”
While Niche gaped at the casual ease from which Frare dismissed the turbulence, the trader seemed to settle.
“Only one of the two most powerful people in the city, young man,” she said, downing a shot from the glass, “between her and Edmund Poutash, it’d be easier to list what they don’t own. The docks, the schools, the farms… if you want an import or export licence? You go through her. You want to own a ship bigger than a rinky-dink fishing boat? You go through her or Potash.”
She finished the glass, and reached for the decanter, and stopped herself.
“And you waltz into the city, and conveniently forget to mention that you have her granddaughter, who hasn’t been in the city ever, if I remember correctly. To say she’d be furious that you didn’t bring the young lady before her immediately would be an understatement. And worse, you dragged us into it.”
“She must be awfully mean - you had nothing to do with us. You just hosted it.”
The woman blinked at the boldfaced remark, and Sorore delivered a good kick to his shins to drive the point home.
“No, no,” she ultimately said, “no I don’t think she’ll do anything to our family, if she believes us. She’s not unreasonable. At least, so I’ve heard. I’ve only met her once, and that was for a brief time. As for what she’ll do to you...”
She gave a pointed look at Niche.
“You tried to hid her granddaughter from her, maybe unintentionally, maybe not. If I were a betting woman, which I’m not, I would say that means trouble. If you want my advice-”
“I don’t,” said Niche, crinkling his noise.
“Don’t be stupid,” said Frare, before he howled at another kick.
Sorore’s face was burning with indignation and embarrassment. This was all too much.
“If you want my advice,” Kieren pressed on, “you’d go find and talk to your commander immediately. I could fetch for him if you wish - I know where Amicio’s home is.”
Niche, through narrowed eyes and clenched teeth, acquiesced.
“Good, now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some letters to send,” she said, “of course, though this has earned you no small amount of displeasure from certain peoples, we’ve been instructed to provide you with house and board for as long as it takes to sort this out. You are still welcome guests and you will be treated as such.”
The tepid truce struck, the children were sent back up to their rooms. Sorore tried to sleep, and managed no more than half an hour before she was woken by her brother.
“The commander’s here,” he said, “he wants to talk to us.”
The commander, looking very tired, but light of step than Sorore had ever seen him, waited by the fire. He was talking with Kieren and the two remaining legionarries in the fast-paced trading tongue of the city, but stopped when he saw the girl come downstairs.
“My lady,” he said, “it seems there’s been a huge misunderstanding.”
She realized that it was his manner of dress which was throwing her off. Instead of his usual worn and thoroughly practical travelling clothes, he wore the long flowing silks of orange and cream. It suited him, matching his calm personality.
“What misunderstanding?” she said.
“Well, we had no idea that our own Aya was the granddaughter of Aystara Eisen herself. I was surprised as anyone. Of course, I knew she was an Eisen, from her mother.”
He looked at Kieren, who looked like she was about to fall asleep.
“But I never imagined that she was a direct descendent of the main house. I thought she was part of the branch, not necessary to cause any fuss, especially during the preparation of the festival. Ah!”
He slapped his head to indicate his shock at the realisation.
“What a terrible mistake I’ve made,” he said, patting the woman’s arm, “this is all on my horrendous lack of judgement. Here’s what’s going to happen, one of these gentlemen and trader Amicio will be vouching for me at the gate. I’m going to the Eisen estate and having a friendly chat with the matriarch, to clear up this misunderstanding.”
Sorore felt at last some suggestion that someone around the city knew what was happening and what they were going to do.
“Here’s what I need you and your brother to do,” Naia said, “I want you to wait and enjoy the hospitality of the madame of the house.”
The term seemed to flatter Kieren, who flushed at the complement. Or that might’ve been the drink, Sorore wasn’t entirely sure.
“Niche, you take care of them. I expect that I might be at the estate for the rest of the night, and possibly onto next afternoon. Things are always so chaotic around the Festival. There’s no reason for you not to attend the festival opening tomorrow, if you can.”
“You want us to attend a festival?” said Niche in disbelief, “right now?”
“Well, not right now, it hasn’t started yet,” said the commander, “but, if Kieren would graciouslly agree to take you as guest of honour, you’d have excellent seats. If that’s not too much to ask, especially after our little debacle.”
Kieren nodded, and affirmed that she wouldn’t mind at all, if the matter was going to be soon cleared up. Sorore was now certain that it wasn’t just alcohol.
“Great. You’re all taken care of, now I’d better explain myself. If you wouldn’t mind,” he said, pointing to the quarter full glass, which Kieren handed to him. The commander downed it all in one, rolled his shoulders, and smiled.
“Don’t worry. It’ll all work out in the end,” he said, “in fact, I would say to enjoy yourselves, as much as you can. And best go back to bed, unless you want to be sleeping during the festival, which, I assure you from experience, you do not.”
Before they could say anything, the commander had swept by them, vanishing out of the front of the pyramid.
“You should heed him,” said Kieren, picking up the decanter and the glass and moving towards the kitchens, “if you’re stuck here for the time being, you might as well enjoy it And that starts with getting good sleep.”
“Last time you said that, we woke up to armed guards,” Niche said flatly.
“Well, I assure you, I’m not boring enough to do that a second time. It would be assassin’s from across the streets, who approach over the rooftops.”
“Do they actually exist?” asked Frare, suddenly excited.
“Oh, I’m sure,” said Kieren as she stowed away her drinking equipment, “but not tonight. Go get some sleep sir paladin, and you two young ones as well. You’ll need it.”
Sorore was cajoled up the steps, Frare coming up after her. Niche seemed placated enough for the time being, though he was clearly unhappy with the outcome. The pleasant dreams neglected to revisit for a second time, but at least the sleep was uninterrupted. When Soroe next awoke, it was a young handmadein, pulling open the screen doors.
“Good morning, my lady,” she said, “how did you sleep?”
“I- well enough, I suppose,” she said, stretching and yawning, before quickly covering her mouth.
The maid had the presence of mind not to notice as she revealed the bright sunlight streaming through the open balcony.
“It must almost be midday!” Sorore exclaimed, leaping out of the bed as she tried to straighten herself.
The maid chuckled as she finished opening up the room.
“Not to fear, my lady,” she said, “it’s customary to sleep into the early afternoon. The Festival does not start until just before sunset, afterall. In fact, you might be earlier than many of the household.”
“Oh,” Soroe said, feeling rather foolish, “Um. Well, I guess I’ll get dressed.”
“Of course. I’ve left out some clothes for you. Madame Kieren suggested that you try clothes from our city. I hope you’ll love them. Do you bathe?”
Sorore wrinkled her nose at the prospect. What kind of question was that?
“Of course I do,” she said.
“Well, there’s a place to bath at the bottom of the pyramid. If you wish to bath alone, you should go now - I’ll bring you clothes for you to change at the waterfront.”
“You bathe together here?” Sorore said
“In the mornings and evenings,” she said, “we do not bring water up into the house if we cannot avoid it. To the stone goes the sea, and to the home goes the sky.”
She looked around, then leaned in with a smile.
“Also, water is very troublesome to carry up all those flights.”
“So just come down to the waterfront?” she said, gathering up what spare things she needed.
“Just follow me, my lady,” said the handmaiden, picking up a pile of clothes and leading her down the stairs.
They emerged onto an inset pool carved into the pyramid interior. A smooth stone deck, with benches and chairs and stacks of towels, as well as several large paper screens, presumably for changing. Sorore was glad to see they were alone, at least for the time being.
At the handmaid, Kiroe’s, direction, she stripped down naked and plunged into the pool. The water was a perfect temperature - cold enough to dispel the last of the grogginess, warm enough to be pleasant to float in. She swam around for a bit, constrained by the relatively small volume, while Kiroe prepared her outfit on the deck.
“Do you mind if I join you?” came a voice from the other end.
Kieren slipped out of a thin morning dress and stepped into the water. Sorore swam over and came to stand beside her.
“Is there any news? About Aya and the commander?” she said, a little too quickly.
Kieren, who’d been sinking into the water with a sigh of contentment, opened one eye.
“Straight to business? Perhaps you are better suited to the city than I thought.”
Sorore tried to smile, but her concern was betrayed, judging by the woman’s softening of expression.
“My knowledge is limited. My uncle is serving as our representative for now. Sounds like your commander was at least allowed to make his case to the Eisen. He made note of one other companion of yours.”
“Oh? Who?” she said, pushing out into the pool, feeling the water surge over her shoulders.
“A man in black clothes,” she said, “who hides his face behind a mask. He was there for the meeting.”
“The mage?” said Sorore, before considering that she maybe shouldn’t have mentioned it.
“A mage?” said Kieren, before submerging herself in the water.
She tossed her hair back as she came back up, spraying water in a neat arc.
“Well, that explains his odd demeanour,” she said, “now, regrettably, that’s all the time I have today for bathing. I will see you at the festival.”
“Hello cousin! May I join- oh,” came a voice from the steps leading out.
It was Ivers, dressed in nothing but a loose robe, which was already half-way off his body, sculpted with muscle from hauling rope and tackle. Sorore stifled a gasp and turned away, trying not to redden.
“I can come back later,” he offered.
“Do you mind?” Kieren said to Sorore, “if you do, it’d be best to finish soon and let others bathe.”
“No, no,” she said, waving her host away.
Kiero had warned her, after all. It would be best to become accustomed to the strange ways of this beautiful city. Besides, it’s not like she hadn’t bathed before in the company of men her age back home. She cursed herself for being so self-conscious, and forced herself to turn around.
“Are you sure? I can leave if you want, it’s not-” Ivers began.
“No, it’s fine. It’s fine,” Sorore said, smiling at him, “it’d be good to have companionship.”
“Well, then, Ivers, I trust you’ll behave yourself,” said Kieren rising from the water.
“Of course, cousin,” Ivers said, casting his eyes to the floor.
Sorore tried not to take a wicked pleasure at the blush that crept across his dark complexion.
“Oh, one more thing,” whispered her host, bending over to the girl, “it’s considered polite to not look when they’re outside the water.”
Kieren laughed at Sorore’s own furious blush as she made for one of the poolside changing screens.

2023.06.10 05:00 Smolesworthy Barbara the Memorious, and Anthony the Memorious
From the novel The Glade Within the Grove, by David Foster
By the time she was captain of a big prestigious girls' school, she new the name of every girl in the whole school, and the name of every girl who had gone to in her time there, and the names of all the school prefects and captains back to the First World War, and all the names of all staff members, still living, whether teaching or no. She soon knew the names of siblings, of every girl in the senior school, and the names of their boyfriends, past and present, ad their penfriends, and their girlfriends outside the school, and their brothers' girlfriends, and the friends of their brothers' girlfriends, and the husbands, and the children, of the married staff,
At school concerts, she was able to address every person present by their proper name, and knew their interests sufficiently well to be able to exchange a few chosen words, whether concerning their recent hospitalisation, or their nieces performance at the previous concert, or their son-in-law's prospects at the forthcoming yacht race, or the likelihood of the Council approving their neighbours' subdivision.
Having commenced with her own family and friends, and worked her confident way outwards, she is, at 21, knows every resident of Darlington and Chippendale by sight, if not by name, and all the shopkeepers of Newtown, by name and sight.
I have heard that she has been known, when drunk, to make tentative stabs at total strangers. 'Hello Claude,' she might say, 'is your little doggie feeling better?'
From the short story All the People, by R.A. Lafferty
He knew everyone in Salt Lake City, where he had never been. He knew everybody in Jebel Shah where the town is a little amphitheater around the harbor, and in Batangas and Weihai. He knew the loungers around the end of the Galata bridge in Istambul, and the porters in Kuala Lumpur. He knew the tobacco traders in Plovdiv, and the cork-cutters of Portugal. He knew the dock workers in Djibouti, and the glove-makers in Prague. He knew the vegetable farmers around El Centro, and the muskrat trappers of Barrataria Bay. He knew the three billion people of the world by name and face, and with a fair degree of intimacy.
“Yet I’m not a very intelligent man. I’ve seen only a few thousands of these billions of people, and it seems unusual that I should know them all. It may be a delusion, but it is a heavily detailed delusion, and it is not accompanied by euphoria. I feel like green hell just thinking of it.”
He knew the cattle traders in Letterkenny Donegal; he knew the cane cutters of Oriente, and the tree climbers of Milne Bay. He knew the people who died every minute, and those who were born.
“There is no way out of it. I know everybody in the world. It is impossible, but it is so. And to what purpose? There aren’t a handful of them I could borrow a dollar from, and I haven’t a real friend in the lot. I don’t know whether it came to me suddenly, but I realized it suddenly. My father was a junk dealer in Wichita, and my education is spotty. I am maladjusted, introverted, incompetent and unhappy, and I also have weak kidneys. Why would a power like this come to a man like me?”
The title is a tribute to Borges' story Funes the Memorious.

2023.06.10 04:57 ertimser Just need to vent… hardest period of my life right now
So.. here I am.. never thought I’d be writing on this sub to be honest.
Where do I even start? I’m a 28 year old guy who had everything he could wish for. A house, a dog and cat, a car, a stable job and.. a girl who I loved dearly, and cared for on every aspect I could.
About a week ago, she broke up with me, saying that she didn’t feel anything for me anymore and that, she hadn’t had feelings for me since January of this year and that those feelings were already waning since the start of Covid (2020).
For more context, we had been together for 13 years now, so since we were both kids literally. Also, we were supposed to be getting married this October. A massive expense on my part as I payed for everything, from rings to venue, to the food and drinks, DJ,…
I spent my whole life with her as my motivator, and in less than a few days, my whole world came crashing down. I currently moved back in with my parents and just feel lost, as though my life is back at square zero. I want to go back on a self improvement journey but… I just don’t even know where to begin at this point.
The day she broke up with me, I immediately had to go to work and worked for 5 days straight. It’s only now, one week later that I’m free to think about all that happened, and with this, also wanted to post my thoughts somewhere.
So for anyone reading this. Thank you that I can share a little bit of my own story with you…

2023.06.10 04:57 YFN_Jason Thoughts about this game for those who’ve played?
I’ve played Elden ring, Dark Souls, and Bloodbourne, which never really posed a challenge to me. Although those are far more superior games, this game right here is way harder than those three. I’ve never struggled so much with a game before, I actually starting getting frustrated. I’m talking about Bosses who literally spam attacks that one tap you. The first boss literally has 2 forms and it’s forces you to learn the mechanics of the game very early. submitted by YFN_Jason to YourRAGE [link] [comments]

2023.06.10 04:50 tones_are_hard DiD Pure Destruction HA Atronach Mage
Just ended a DiD playthrough today, an incredibly strong mage in Fellglow keep hit me with a Blizzard spell and I was knocked down and killed, from just about full health to nothing... anyways, time for a write up!
This was my second playthrough of Wildlander (first one was an Atronach spellsword that died at lvl 16), and oh boy was this fun. A pure Atronach mage has been on my list of builds for ages, well before I started Wildlander. Many said it can not be done, that is false. It can be a very strong build, but not at the beginning.
Main skills at time of Death:
- Destruction - 60 (mainly fire)
- Heavy Armor - 55
- Alchemy - 51 (if you want it to not be OP don't take the second lvl of the first perk until mid playthrough, it breaks the economy if taken early, much more fun like this)
- Enchanting - 85
- Speech - 70
- Alteration - 25
- Lockpicking - first perk
Dark Elf, started crossing the border near Falkreath.
The main problems with this build:
- Obvious one: You don't regenerate Magicka, and as a pure mage that is something that is going to limit your growth in the beginning.
- HA severely increases your Magicka costs, which can be offset by perks, enchantments, and a huge Magicka pool, but is still a problem to overcome. The benefits are great for DiD though. You can survive a lot more than a LA or Robed mage.
- Magicka potions are 33% less effective. With Magicka potions being almost the only way you can gain Magicka until the mid game, this sucks.
Now I was able to overcome each of these problems, but they all took some time.
Solutions:
- Carry 120,300 restore Magicka potions in your inventory. Always use them, hotkey them to the comfiest hotkey. The need for this never goes away (gets better later on though). When you're strong enough to beat shouting Draugr go to Solstheim and do Azhdal's quests. Do them as early as you can. You need the Ring of Arcana that gets you a flat 2 Magicka per second. This was such a game changer later in my build. I should have rushed this earlier. It won't make a difference in a fight, but it will save you a ton of Magicka potions by just waiting an hour in dungeons or after fights. Don't do the last portion of the quest though. Azhdal is a level 100 dragon priest, he will kill you if you go in there.
- Run in HA as much as you can in the early game, let yourself get hit by mudcrabs, go get HA training from the Orc near Markarth (I didn't do this last one until HA was 40 though). When you are fighting low level enemies like wolves and mudcrabs take off your armor and use destruction. Always harvest the animals in the early game, Animal Fat and Garlic/Beehive husk is your friend, and will make you a good amount of gold in the early game (never felt OP though if you follow my advice). Once you are strong enough to fight bandits (have a good amount of Magicka potions and dual cast lvl 25 Destruction spell) you need to loot their items, sell the expensive stuff, and keep the light cheap stuff. With this you'll buy the cheapest soul gems and grind your Enchanting. By 35 hours into the build I had Fortify Destruction 16% on multiple pieces of armor, so fighting became a bit easier. By the end I had used elixirs to get 21% off on my Chest piece and Helmet, as well as the 15% from Azhdal's ring and the 10% from the boots (67% reduction total). This combined with a massive Magicka pool meant I was strong enough to fight enemies 30 levels higher than me.
- Just make a ton of potions. Eventually you will run out of Mora, but don't fret. Elves ear is sold in one of the stalls in Whiterun, and in Winterhold the Dark Elf near the door to the docks sells a ton of restore Magicka potion supplies (20+ Mora, Ectoplasm, Creep Cluster, Elves Ear). Get good enchanted fortify alchemy gear as soon as you can, keep it in your inventory and put it on when you are crafting potions. By end game you'll be making potions that give you 20 magicka per second and allow you to keep casting during fights. Also quick thing, the College of Winterhold downstairs has a place to practice wards. Here you can replenish your Magicka with the 50% spell absorb, just make sure you don't do it enough to kill you. I used Transmute Blood a little bit, but ended up not liking it, felt too slow and risky.
Once this build got off its feet it was so much fun. Killed some really hard enemies (including a dragon) by level 26. Most of the difficult action started after I had 75 enchanting though. It's definitely a slow build at the beginning, but is a fun one for RP. For my backstory my Dunmer character was sent on a coming of age quest by his tribe because of dreams he's been having. He was told he had to find the Stones of Barenziah which eventually led him to Skyrim and then led him around Skyrim, doing quests at each of the places he went to. Was cool too with the journal mod.
What would I do differently though?
Play as a Breton and put my first 10 level ups into Magicka. Adding 25% spell resistance onto my endgame 39% would bring me up to a whopping 64% plus the 50% spell absorb chance. With how much magic school reduction you need on your enchanted gear having this extra MR would have probably kept my character alive right now. I also would have spent more time in different cities in the early game. Whiterun is nice and safe, but changing up your city and staying there for a few weeks makes the early game less tedious and levels you up faster. Also allows you to go back to previous places and harvest ingredients (I'm looking at you Mora).
All in all I've loved my experience playing Wildlander and have recommended it to a few friends. You guys did an amazing job bringing together the best mods Skyrim has to offer, to make the world really feel real. I sunk an ungodly amount of hours into this character over the past two weeks, and I already have an idea for a new character! And best of all, my game had a bug where Heimskr wouldn't preach in Whiterun... please don't fix it. Bliss, pure bliss.

2023.06.10 04:49 Kooky-Split-1353 I have committed the unforgivable sin.

2023.06.10 04:48 Weary_Wanderer19 My brother is a moron
Me(20m) and my younger brother(16) aren’t very close at all. I rarely ever talk to him or interact much nowadays unless we are on vacation when he follows me around like a shadow. For a long time when we where younger I was your typical shitty big brother who was more of a bully than anything else. I eventually realized what I was doing wasn’t right but with a now destroyed relationship I didn’t really know how to fix it other than just being supportive when I could. I feel like the relationship is better now but he is the stereotypical gamer kid who never wants to leave the house and has less than stellar hygiene. While he is very book smart he is completely ignorant on basic practical knowledge or skills. My family is on vacation and for the past week he has repeatedly done things like ask questions about things he was literally just told, completely ignore context in conversations, and talk excessively about anything. I try telling him things like if he stopped talking so much and just listen then he wouldn’t be so confused all the time, but he doesn’t listen. He’s very irritating to be around sometimes, and I don’t understand his logic or thinking about anything.
The most confusing thing is he’s not stupid, like I said before he’s book smart. His grades in school are much higher than mine ever were but he just seems to lack any common sense. He’s capable of learning things quickly because I taught him how to play some simple songs on guitar and he picked it up in less than 20 minutes. He’s perfectly capable but he’s just a moron. Anyway there’s my rant about my brother, just needed to get it out, goodnight.

2023.06.10 04:48 Anonymouse_Can_980 90 Day Journey: Watching Natalie backwards
I suppose I actually watched 90 day fiancé in the background and only for a season or two. I initially recall Natalie from her 1st single life season, then watched the most recent season. I left these shows thinking “Eh, she’s a gorgeous woman seeking to trade her looks for a nice lifestyle.” Not much substance there. Also, I was convinced she tricked her husband into a green card. Then I watched her 90 day journey…I couldn’t believe what I watched.
- Halfway (or so) through her 90 days on a fiancé visa he announced to her she’s NOT his fiancé. That was cruel.
- Holding the ring and previous argument in Ukraine over her head. Dude…if the relationship is done, cancel the visa before she arrives. Stop the process. Simple. Why buy her a ticket to the US?
- His willingness to walk away from every conversation was nauseating. He was in a position of power over her rather than a partner to her.
- Pushing her to drink, which is genuinely a personal annoyance to me.
- Canceling the wedding in quarantine, knowing borders to Ukraine were closed. Exactly where was she supposed to go? And how?
- My least favorite, after they’ve turned around to retrieve his credit card for hotel stay…he demands his ring back! Then asks for a hug? Why, to physically take the ring? He’s strange fruit.
Yes, Natalie was wrong and the catalyst for the Ukraine argument but she’s certainly not responsible for his prolonged reaction. They talked for at least a year prior to this process. How did 2 people who seemed to adore one another suddenly go to war? Unfortunately, I totally understand Natalie giving the ring back while simultaneously wanting Michael to fight for her. It’s drama, it’s gameplay and it’s the wrong move with a guy like him. Honestly, he failed her juvenile test, she should have come clean about his motives or cut him loose immediately.
Michael and his mom…would it have been impossible to find a nice fish & throw it on a grill @Thanksgiving? I’m sure Michael could have afforded it, unfortunately Natalie seemed to be an accessory and afterthought for him. He expected her to get over everything when he couldn’t get over anything. He never intended to marry her, he didn’t even bother with purchasing a wedding band before the planned wedding. Exactly what did he plan to put on her finger during the wedding he cancelled? Did mom call her a hooker? Even she did it, that argument also lasted for way too long. Don’t hold me accountable for my “mother”…eh then again I would believe my mom said something rude.
Natalie comes off unhinged. There is no denying that. However I have so much more empathy for her after watching the 90 day journey. I am also a bit unhinged due to some of my own very, very poor decisions and humiliating experiences…but I don’t date.
TLDR: Watching 90 day journey completely changed my perspective on Natalie

2023.06.10 04:48 judas_isgay I’m Worried for my Dad
I don’t know if I’m too young to be on this Subreddit (13FTM) but I’m really worried for my dad. Tonight he decided to go to a restaurant with some friends and me and my brother tagged along because he didn’t want to leave us alone together - and then 3 hours passed, his friend said they were going to a club and my dad told us he was going to leave us home alone.
This worried me. Why? Because they were passing around the a girls and guys vapes and drinking (my dad drunk four beers and he used to smoke, saying ‘used to’, he quit three years ago)
But then on the ride home, my dad said they were going there to smoke hookahs which made me even more paranoid because for some reason, my family has a thing where fathers die when their kids are young. My mom was 12 when her father died, my dads dad was 10 and my grandmother was 8. My dad thankfully got to grow up with a father.
But I’m scared he’s gonna hurt himself due to something or even a car crash on the way back. And if that happens, I’m not prepared. My aunt can’t take me in, my mom is not fit to be a parent and my godfather doesn’t care about me.

2023.06.10 04:47 RaptorRef Syndicalism in Austria
(Speech conducted in 1936 in front of the Austria Reichstag done by socialist journalist turned politician "Friedrich Krallentod") (NON CANNON)
1:30 pm Vianna
"My Reichstag we live in a crossroad of history where ideology's of syndicalism form in the west and this new motherland party in Russia grown more powerful by the day and we sit here a silent democracy pushing no one when everyone pushes on us. I as a socialist am hated by a few in this chamber but liked by others and that is no why I'm here I'm here to point out how flawed this all is as syndicalism collapses into its self and the extremist leaders of Russia push them selves towards becoming a new tsardom and rolling over its peoples freedoms in the prosses. First I shall dismantle syndicalism something that I know one big figure in this room holds a love for, Syndicalism was a amazing construct but like all government it failed with this new totalism doctrine ever more adopted by Brittan rules in the background as it is just becoming the same oppressive yoke as before and we can learn from that as syndicalism has many upsides as well but they are also found in other forms of governments. Now for the Russians as this right wing nutjob is ripping Russia in two as many are split between revolution again, keeping the democracy and, restoring to tsar and then their is are brother north the Germans. The who knew in 1812 when Prussia was defeated by napoleon and had almost all of its land striped and plundered wound make a come back to start and win the grate war 102 years later and now we see the death of that rotting impearl structure as to satiate the hunger of that tyrant of Ludendorff and the German Kiser a distant family member of mine they missed there chance to change the world for the better and thus have doomed us all to repeat the cycle of wars and military build up and rebuilding and that is where we get to my opinion. In my opinion we can see there the world is turning and where we must turn with it we have been given a map on where to go and we know, WE MUST TURN WITH THE WORLD IR IT WILL TURN BACK ON US, That is why I call for the formation of the Danuban federation and the uniting of all Dubaians under one flag one nation and one government of social democracy."

2023.06.10 04:46 ElectronicEarth376 Is there black magic on this?
Long story: I moved from my hometown to Canada for study and the day I had to take my plane, my mom gave me this ring and this bracelet. She is from a country where there can be a lot of shirk (people seeking protection, wealth, etc. to whose who are dead or some spirits. She also gave me that day a big bottle to put on my body (it was water mixed with something kinda pink, purple) and she told me to do it discretly without telling my dad or someone. She was acting like she was trying to hide it from others members of my family. I don't want to believe that my mom is doing some stuff like that but be brutally honest. Is there black magic on these stuff? Did my mom commited shirk? Thanks everyone and may الله grant us jannah 🙏🏾. submitted by ElectronicEarth376 to islam [link] [comments]
2023.06.10 04:45 HOCKHOCKHOCKHOCKHOCK Chat GPT Death Battle tournament. Round 2!
Current Bracket This is the 2nd round of the Chat GPT tournament bracket. As a refresher of the rules For each match I give a brand new ChatGPT thread the following prompt "Script a fight between [Character A] and [Character B]. The fight should start with the characters using their weaker abilities and pulling out stronger attacks as the fight goes on. You must decide who wins the fight based on logic and the fight must end in the death of the loser." I will not reset a script unless Rule 1 or 2 are broken. (Sometimes ChatGPT will literally replace the winner with "your winner pick") All characters were selected by commenters on a previous post. DISCLAIMER: ChatGPT generated every fight on their own with the rules provided. I gave them no info on either character. Incorrect representation of personalities or abilities, as well as objectively false outcomes that may come from these fights are due to limitations by the AI itself. ROUND 2 FIGHT 1: Tartaglia (Genshin Impact) vs Kratos (God of War) INT. MYSTERIOUS ARENA - DAY Tartaglia, the sneering Harbinger of the Fatui from Genshin Impact, and Kratos, the vengeful Spartan God of War, stand on opposite ends of a grand arena. The air crackles with anticipation as they prepare to engage in an epic battle. TARTAGLIA (brandishing his Hydro Vision) Well, well, what have we here? Another foolhardy warrior seeking a taste of my power? Prepare to be outmatched, mortal. KRATOS (grasping the Blades of Chaos) Your arrogance will be your downfall, creature. I have faced gods and monsters alike. You shall not be an exception. They both charge forward, each unleashing their weaker abilities as the battle begins. Tartaglia conjures water blades, slashing through the air towards Kratos. He then calls forth his elemental skill, "Havoc: Obliteration," firing a powerful water arrow that explodes upon impact. Kratos, using his Spartan Rage, channels his fury, enhancing his strength and resistance. He charges through the water blades, enduring their impact, and retaliates with a relentless assault of swift and powerful strikes from his blades. The battle intensifies as Tartaglia, realizing the gravity of the situation, taps into his more potent Hydro abilities. He activates his elemental burst, "Havoc: Tidebreaker," summoning a colossal tidal wave that crashes towards Kratos. Kratos, unyielding, pushes against the torrent with all his might, barely holding his ground. His rage-fueled power amplifies as he summons the Leviathan Axe, imbued with ice elemental abilities, and hurls it towards Tartaglia. The clash of Kratos' Leviathan Axe and Tartaglia's tidal wave causes a monumental explosion, temporarily obscuring the arena. Emerging from the smoke, both combatants reveal their resolve to claim victory. TARTAGLIA (mocking) Is that the best you can do, Spartan? Your strength is nothing compared to the power of the Archon. KRATOS (gritted teeth) You underestimate me at your own peril, harpy. I am the Ghost of Sparta, and I will not be defeated. As the fight enters its final phase, both fighters unleash their ultimate abilities, combining the full extent of their powers. Tartaglia harnesses the true potential of his Hydro Vision, transforming into his mighty Primal form, the "Lord of the Vishaps." He summons water dragons that ravage the battlefield, assaulting Kratos relentlessly. Kratos, driven to the edge, taps into his godly might, assuming his Spartan God form. His body becomes engulfed in divine flames as he unleashes the full force of his Spartan Rage and Spartan Fury, delivering earth-shattering blows. Their clash reaches its climax, shaking the arena to its core. The combatants give their all, but in the end, a winner emerges. Tartaglia, battered and exhausted, falls to his knees, unable to withstand the relentless onslaught of Kratos' divine fury. With a final strike from the Blades of Chaos, Kratos pierces Tartaglia's heart, ending the battle. Kratos stands over the fallen Tartaglia, his victory confirmed. The arena falls into silence as the crowd witnesses the overwhelming might of the Ghost of Sparta. FADE OUT. WINNER: Kratos (God of War) ROUND 2 FIGHT 2: Son Goku (Dragon Ball) vs Chuck Norris (memes) INT. BATTLE ARENA - DAY The arena is filled with anticipation as Goku and Chuck Norris step into the ring. The crowd roars with excitement, eager to witness this epic clash between two iconic figures. Goku, a Saiyan warrior with incredible power, stands tall with his signature orange gi, a confident smile on his face. Chuck Norris, the legendary martial artist and internet meme, exudes an aura of unstoppable strength. Goku (smirking): So, Chuck Norris, you think you can handle a Saiyan? Chuck Norris (grinning): Goku, you're in for a surprise. Let's see what you've got. They both take their starting positions, ready for combat. Goku charges at Chuck Norris, launching a flurry of rapid punches and kicks. Chuck Norris effortlessly dodges and counters with lightning-fast strikes, displaying his incredible martial arts skills. Goku (impressed): Not bad, Chuck! But let's see how you handle this! Goku charges up a small Kamehameha wave and fires it at Chuck Norris, who calmly blocks it with his bare hands, showcasing his immense durability. Goku senses the need to step up his game. He transforms into Super Saiyan form, his golden hair and aura intensifying. Goku (grinning): Now, Chuck, things are about to get serious! Chuck Norris smirks and taps into his legendary meme powers, enhancing his already impressive strength and speed. They engage in a fierce exchange of blows, each landing powerful strikes on the other. Goku launches an enormous Spirit Bomb, gathering energy from the surroundings, while Chuck Norris summons the powers of the internet memes, creating a devastating Roundhouse Kick of Destruction. The Spirit Bomb and the Roundhouse Kick collide in an explosion that shakes the entire arena. Both fighters stand, panting heavily, their bodies bruised and battered. But there can only be one victor. Goku, realizing the seriousness of the situation, channels all his remaining energy into one last attack. He unleashes the Ultra Instinct, a state of being where his reflexes and power reach their peak. Goku (whispering): This is my final move, Chuck! Goku charges towards Chuck Norris at an incredible speed, delivering a barrage of punches and kicks with unparalleled precision. Chuck Norris, though overwhelmed, refuses to back down. He counters Goku's attacks with unmatched skill, trading blows with the Saiyan warrior. In a climactic moment, Goku delivers a devastating punch that connects with Chuck Norris's chest, shattering his legendary invincibility. Chuck Norris, stunned, realizes the battle is over. He falls to his knees, gasping for breath, his body unable to withstand Goku's final attack. Goku (looking somber): It's over, Chuck. You fought valiantly, but I had to protect my world. Chuck Norris, with a faint smile, nods in acknowledgment. Chuck Norris: You're the stronger one, Goku. Farewell. Chuck Norris collapses to the ground, lifeless, ending the battle between two legends. The crowd falls silent, paying respect to both fighters. Goku takes a moment to mourn the fallen warrior before exiting the arena, victorious but somber. FADE OUT. WINNER: Son Goku (Dragon Ball) ROUND 2 FIGHT 3: Seiya (Saint Seiya) vs Erika Furudo (Umineko) INT. COSMIC ARENA - DAY The cosmic arena is shrouded in an ethereal glow, crackling with energy. Seiya, the Bronze Saint of Pegasus, stands tall with his Cosmo ablaze, while Erika Furudo, the Golden Witch of Truth, exudes an aura of mystery and power. SEIYA I won't let evil prevail! Pegasus Meteor Fist! Seiya unleashes a barrage of meteor-like punches, hurtling towards Erika. ERIKA (chanting) Red Truth, deny falsehood! Erika raises her hand, invoking the power of the Red Truth, forming a barrier that deflects the meteor strikes. She then retaliates. ERIKA Blue Truth, reveal the weak points! Erika's words pierce the air, targeting Seiya's vulnerabilities. Seiya stumbles, his movements momentarily hindered. SEIYA Not giving up! Pegasus Rolling Crush! Seiya spins, unleashing a flurry of kicks, aiming to break through Erika's defenses. ERIKA (whispering) Golden Truth, manifest your wrath! Erika's whispers resonate with ancient magic, summoning golden chains that ensnare Seiya, restraining his movements. SEIYA Grr... Pegasus Divine Ascension! Seiya gathers his Cosmo, propelling himself upward, breaking free from the golden chains. He then dives down with immense speed, aiming for Erika. ERIKA (voice filled with certainty) Golden Truth, sever all bonds! Erika's command causes the chains to transform into countless blades, intercepting Seiya's descent, creating a barrier of blades. SEIYA Unyielding! Pegasus Comet Fist! Seiya channels his Cosmo into his fists, smashing through the barrier of blades, closing in on Erika. ERIKA (whispering, eyes shining) Golden Truth, shatter illusions! Erika's whisper intensifies, releasing a wave of energy that distorts reality. Seiya's vision becomes hazy, making it difficult to locate Erika. SEIYA I can't lose now! Pegasus Nova! Seiya unleashes a powerful energy blast, surging through the haze, aimed at Erika's position. ERIKA (rising above the haze, determined) Golden Truth, pierce through the darkness! Erika's voice cuts through the haze, and a beam of golden light materializes, deflecting Seiya's attack. She counters with her ultimate move. ERIKA Golden Truth, Witch's Judgment! Erika's eyes glow with an intense golden light. Seiya is engulfed in a torrent of energy, his Cosmos crushed under the immense power of the Witch's Judgment. SEIYA (struggling) I won't... give up! Seiya's voice weakens, and his body collapses, defeated. His Cosmos fades away, leaving only silence. FADE OUT. Winner: Erika Furudo (Umineko) ROUND 2 FIGHT 4: Alucard (Hellsing) vs Reverse Flash (DC comics) INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - NIGHT The dimly lit warehouse stands silent, shrouded in an eerie atmosphere. Suddenly, a gust of wind blows through the room, followed by a crackle of lightning. Reverse Flash, a speedster dressed in yellow and black, materializes. Across from him, Alucard, a dark and enigmatic vampire, appears with his crimson eyes gleaming. REVERSE FLASH (mocking) Well, well, what do we have here? A bloodsucking vampire? This should be fun! ALUCARD (smiling wickedly) Indeed. You've caught my attention, speedster. Let's see if your speed can match my darkness. The battle commences as the adversaries circle each other, testing their abilities. Alucard extends his arm, releasing shadows that transform into demonic hounds charging at Reverse Flash. But with his incredible speed, Reverse Flash easily evades their attacks, darting around the room. REVERSE FLASH (chuckling) You'll have to do better than that, Dracula! Alucard smirks and his form begins to change. His shadowy essence swirls around him, transforming him into a monstrous, winged creature. He lunges at Reverse Flash, clawing through the air with incredible strength and speed. However, Reverse Flash vibrates his molecules, allowing the creature's attack to pass harmlessly through him. REVERSE FLASH (grinning) Impressive, vampire, but your tricks won't work on me! Now it's Reverse Flash's turn. He taps into the Speed Force, his body vibrating with an intense energy. He moves so fast that he becomes a blur, delivering lightning-fast punches and kicks to Alucard. The vampire's supernatural durability allows him to withstand the onslaught, but the impact weakens him. ALUCARD (blood dripping from his mouth) You may be fast, but you lack the darkness that fuels me! Alucard's eyes glow with renewed intensity. He releases the restriction seals on his power, unleashing his true form. Shadows envelop the entire warehouse as Alucard's presence becomes even more ominous. He disappears from sight, leaving Reverse Flash momentarily disoriented. REVERSE FLASH (concerned) Where did you go? Alucard's voice echoes through the room, chilling Reverse Flash to the bone. ALUCARD (whispering) I am everywhere and nowhere, speedster. Your speed won't save you from my darkness. Reverse Flash frantically looks around, but Alucard's words prove true. Shadows converge on Reverse Flash from all directions, binding him in an inescapable grip. Alucard materializes before him, his eyes glowing with an unholy light. ALUCARD (grinning) It's time to embrace eternal darkness. Alucard's monstrous form lunges at Reverse Flash, sinking his fangs deep into his neck. The vampire drains his opponent's life force, feeding on his super-speed and preventing any chance of escape. REVERSE FLASH (struggling weakly) No... this can't be... As Reverse Flash's life force fades away, Alucard retracts his fangs, letting the lifeless body of his defeated opponent fall to the ground. The room returns to its eerie silence as Alucard stands victorious. FADE OUT. WINNER: Alucard (Hellsing) Well there it is. Round 2. Chat GPT shows some clear issues here even moreso than last round but hey, that's part of the fun. Sorry if your favorite character was Reverse Flash lmao. Robbed. Final 4 bracket. submitted by HOCKHOCKHOCKHOCKHOCK to deathbattle [link] [comments]
2023.06.10 04:42 Ok_Meeting_2184 Anyone feels like lots of fantasy and science fiction nowadays are unreadable?
The learning curves of most modern fantasy and science fiction are way too high. When I read fantasy, it usually starts with a "what the hell is going on" moment, followed by a question "why should I care." The beginning of every story is the most important part, as it serves as a hook for the reader, but all these fantasy fiction have me confused from the get-go. Now, I'm sure if I keep on reading, things will be explained anyway, but usually by that point, I would already be bored to death and drop the story altogether.
I think this problem stems from the so-called deep POV—a character-only narrative. In deep POV, the character is the one telling the story—even though it's written in third person POV—and we only see the world through the eyes of the character. And what the character doesn't notice or know or think about, it will not be included in the narration.
Writing from a very limited perspective is fine, but the problem comes when said character already knows something and has no need to tell or describe it to the reader. For example, the story is set in a fantasy world where monsters roam the land. The MC is a monster hunter. When we're told the story from his very limited perspective, the narrator will tell us only the monster's name and that's that. No description, whatsoever. The reader has no idea how the hell this monster looks like and can't imagine it.
The best joy of reading a story is imagining and living inside the story's world. But when you don't give me description, I have no idea what to imagine.
Same goes for science fiction. Too many jargons at the beginning of the story with little to no description. Reading these kinds of story is like solving riddles. I'm here to enjoy a story, not to play games.
Not all modern fantasy are like this, though, but most of them seem to be written this way.
Just to give you some context, here are some fantasy novels I find highly readable and not confusing at all: The Hobbit, The Lord of The Rings series, Harry Potter series (maybe this one is cheating, since the protagonist comes from our ordinary everyday world), The Dark Tower series, The Witcher series, among many others.
Anyone else has the same problem?

2023.06.10 04:40 dimestorepublishing I'm turning my Dwarven society from Hyper Capitalist to Communist is this a good speech?
So the Dwarves had a huge debt over humans, humans helped a Dwarven ally of the king overthrow them to cancel the debt, now the new King of Dwarves is instituting Communism. Is this a good speech? (Humans overthrew the Dark Lord and the story picks up with all the sons of the Dark Lords' administration picking up the pieces and trying to rebuild the kingdom,
the Compact is a treaty the three kingdoms, elf dwarf and man, signed about 300 years ago dictating the laws of trade (Economics is a huge focus in this story)
------
Watts had been successful in his first mission. The Dwarven capital was reclaimed by Man’s ally Okgruli Caskmaster, salt-born savior and rightful King of Dwarves, rightful in the eyes of Man at least. It was rumored that once the Dark Lord was fallen and his work in the Throne of Man was completed, Anthorn would send his forces west and aid his good friend Okgruli to reclaim his throne. Those words had been invoked, even if by Mason’s hand rather than Anthorn’s himself.
Now Ellis Watts, the representative of the Throne of Man, stood by the side of Okgruli Caskmaster, who was holding his great golden war axe high in the air, gathering cheers from the Dwarves celebrating the new order. Sure, the wealthier class of their people thought it madness, to cancel a debt of that size, of that magnitude, that they held over the mightiest of the three nations. But Okgruli promised them a new world, a new order, where the alliance with man by bond of battle would outway any petty concerns of gold.
On the stage next to Okgurli, were three of the old order, the Gold Beards, hanging with hands bound and necks in nueces, two had already dropped and snapped. The third, a Dwarf by the name of Gemhold, Ellis remembered, stood proud and ready for death.
Okgruli’s voice was low and commanding, “State your crimes, Gold Beard,” he said, ready to again swing his axe and consign the next pretender to Dwarven leadership to death.
“I am guilty,” Gemhold said, earning a great hissing and jeering from the audience of proud Dwarves, “I am guilty!” he said louder, “I am guilty of bringing our nation gold, wealth, trimuph, and in this revolution on the order of man of all people, you cheer for our wealth to be taken from us!” he said. He knew he was about to die, she didn’t really give a damn about being civil, “Do you not see what this Dwarf you all support so much has already taken from us, the dream of the Dwarven empire from mountains to coast, trade, wealth, gold, gold damn you, gold, the gold we have lost by this mad dwarf cancelling a fair debt. You are all Dwarves, you’ve been raised and taught the power of debt and taught how debt has given our kind more political power then any standing army this pretender could hope to build,” he said, “Revolution is an addiction, you lesser than dwarves think because you can’t make a good deal to save your lives that the system must be rigged, so when some wild dwarf comes and says he will seize the capital on your behalf you dare not question him!”
A rock came flying out of the audience and caught Gemhold on the side of the head, drawing a bit of blood from him. He took the hit and stayed strong in his resolve.
Okgruli tried to calm the audience, “This criminal will face his sentence, on the honor of being a Dwarf he is allowed to speak,” Okgruli said as he waved his hand and tried to calm the mob.
“Do you even realize what you will be living under should this so-called King of Dwarves ideals be put into place? Do you know who he aligns himself with? We the ones you call the Gold Beards, the Dwarves proud and strong in their ability to bring wealth to our people, we spoke to men and we defeated man at every turn, this Caskmaster has never spoken to a true throne, a true man of business, he speaks to the men called Duradan, simple men who live in trees, wear leaves and trade skins and meat. Men who wouldn’t know gold from iron, all of you, look all of you, to the trappings and luxuries the Freehold under our leadership has provided you, think of the wealth you will lose if you follow this pretender when your nation is wrecked when you’re striking stones for fire and clinging to whatever bread his society will allow you to have, remember, dwarves, remember the wealth our nation once gave you, when you find yourselves with nothing, remember a time where a dwarf could have anything,”
“Could have anything if they were a damn Gold Beard,” a Dwarf cried out as another siege of stone came upon the stage. “Remember!” Gemhold called out, “Remember you are proud dwarves, when you're reduced to trading skins and hunting your own food with only a memory of the wealth of gold, you remember what this revolution you cheered for brought you, and you remember what you gave up,” he said, taking a few more hits to the head.
“Enough!” Okgruli raised his hand, and the barrage stopped, “This Dwarf has spoken for himself,” he raised his axe and sliced the other end of the rope holding Gemhold’s neuce. Gemhold dropped and his thick neck snapped as he hung there, dead next to the other Gold Beard leaders.
“Look at this bead, Dwarves,” Okgruli said, running a hand through the brown hair hanging down his face, “You will never see a flake of gold on this beard, you will never see the Dwarf you’ve made your leader tout and carry about like he is wealthier than you, I am a Dwarf, a proud Dwarf born of the salt of the earth, no gold in this beard,” he shook his head, “Wealthy as our people are, it is sin to display wealth in such opulant manner, I think myself not above a Dwarf amoung you, no Dwarf should be over another, we are one people, one nation,” Okgruli turned to held his hand up to the great mountains behind him, “Within these mountains is the petty gold we’ve drawn as much strength as we could from, man harbors over this gold, in that we have power over him, as the true deciders of this world, but no more will we be the deciders from only another races lusts for our resource,” he said, “This gold does not belong to me, it does not belong to you, it belongs to all of us, to every dwarf that has ever taken hammer to mountain to bring our kind wealth, as my first decree from the Throne of Dwarves I say that all gold belongs to all dwarves, the wealth of the land, the wealth of the salt we have all been birthed from is as much yours as it is mine, no more no less, from this day forward, know that every dwarf will bask in wealth,” he raised his hands to the cheers of the dwarves, “What is gold, what does gold mean other than the value that man gave it when he first came to our mountains and lusted after its luster, let man chase gold, we Dwarves have something wanted, something coveted, we own the gold, it does not own us, I commission that we will use or gold not for for trappings of wrapping it in our beards and blazining our weapons, what does gold mean to you, you of the salt and stone, a Dwarf will never again be judged by the gold in his pocket, but instead by the sweat from his brow, the gold belongs to all and none, the Dwarves united will use the gold that the Throne of Man, our allies granted, but the Throne of man covets what is by blood and right property of the Dwarves, if this gold belongs to Dwarves, then let it be spent in the service of Dwarves, all Dwarves, great and rich, small and poor, the wealth of our nation belongs to our nation, and no Dwarf will ever again be able to connive or coax his way to the fortune of our people that belongs to all our people, no more will Dwarves fleck their beards and think themselves a higher station then any of you. I may be your ruler, but in my rule you find yourselves led by an equal, not by a supremacist who puts mercantilism above mercy. By the power restored to me as the true King of Dwarves, is to declare that all gold still resting in these mountains, belongs to all dwarves, to you proud dwarves who will work the mines not for your own glory, but for the strength and prosperity of your people, you will work under me Dwarves, and know that I, your king, will be with pick-axe and cart right next to you. So I commission, that we drain this mountain of its wealth, and spread that wealth useless to us to the petty concerns of Man and Elf. Let them war for gold, let them die for gold, we will take the riches of it first and formost, and we will spread that wealth to all the Throne of Dwarves, while they will fight and kill eachother for the wealth that only we can create, our nation will thrive!” he raised his arms, receiving cheers from a populace ready for hope and change, “Let it be said, and let it be written in the stone, to each Dwarf according to his needs, and from each Dwarf according to his means, and we have means, we have the greatest source of wealth in the three kingdoms, I say we use this wealth and build for ourselves the mightiest kingdom since the singing of that damn compact, we will supply Man and Elf with their gold, with their trappings, and in that we will trap them, from this day forward, no Dwarf will be more wealthy then his peer, for we will all be wealthy, invest in me brother Dwarves, pay into my new world with your labor, for labor is the only value that this world has, do not buy a trapping by paying for it in gold, receive a blessing by giving your labor, it has been said, the Dwarves do not pay the price of kings, I seek to build you a world where you will never pay a price again!”
The crowd was roaring now, the populace of the Dwarven kingdom had grown tired of the Goldbeard’s fixation of generating wealth. It was alluring, this idea Okgruli had, no more buying, no more selling, a world where a Dwarf could work with his hands and earn enough sustinance to be prosperous. It was a grand idea, why should a Dwarf slave for the wealth of one stationed above him only by means of capital? Why should a dwarf work for anyone save himself, or all Dwarven peoples? The Interlopers of capital hung dead before the people, and they cheered for their new king.
