2023.06.08 21:00 AutoModerator Questions about moving or traveling to Wyoming? Ask here!
FAQ Summary (And these are
very frequently asked here): If your question still is unanswered drop it in the thread below to ask the locals!
"What will the weatheroads be like in _____ month (Usually winter) when I'm traveling there?" We don't know, and forecasts generally aren't "solidified" until a few days out. We're mostly exposed high plains, so large weather fronts can mean wide scale and extreme weather changes. Road closures and impassable conditions happen all over roughly from October to April any given year. I80 from Cheyenne to Rawlins in particular closes several times a month during our 6+ month long winter.
The WYDOT website, the 511 mobile app, and Google Maps traffic views are all your friends the day before or morning of any road trip through an area. High cross winds, whiteout ground blizzards, and sheet ice are all the norm. If you and your vehicle are not prepared for that and potentially being stranded, we highly recommend finding alternate routes. Towns are few and far between for rest, lodging, food, and fuel. And no, it's neither safe nor legal to ignore posted road closures.
"
How is X town to live in? I'm moving from [somewhere completely different on the other side of the country]" WY is the least populated state, and least densely populated state after Alaska, for a myriad of reasons. Rhode Island has quite a bit more residents. At time of writing, there are 4 towns with populations (barely) over 30k people, and Wyoming's population has overall shrunk in the last 5 years. It's a big empty. Jackson is very different than the rest of the state. Outside of a few of the largest towns, you will not have city amenities, and will need to road trip to them, or even out of state to a metro area, for certain things.
"I want to move across the country to go off the grid and be a self-sufficient homesteader in Wyoming...." The land isn't very arable, the growing season is short, potable water isn't a given in many areas, and there's a reason Wyoming historically didn't have the grassroots homesteading / agriculture outside of ranching that other Western states had. We recommend you live here away from towns for a year before you try some "living off the land" adventure for your own safety and sanity.

2023.06.08 20:23 emergencysignal1 Emergency Alert Systems: The Power of Real-Time Communication in Urgent Situations
In times of emergency, effective communication plays a crucial role in saving lives and minimizing damage. Emergency alert systems have become vital instruments in providing real-time information and warnings to individuals and groups facing severe situations. These technologies offer unmatched capabilities in monitoring and identifying potential dangers, from
emergency signal devices to sophisticated contactless sleep sensors.
In this blog, we will explore the significance of emergency alert systems, including the evolving technology behind them, such as contactless sleep sensors, and their role in enabling early warning systems for enhanced safety and response.
Emergency Signal Devices Emergency signal devices are at the forefront of alerting individuals to imminent dangers. These devices, including sirens, loudspeakers, and flashing lights, are strategically placed in public spaces, buildings, and vehicles to broadcast urgent notifications during emergencies. By promptly and clearly conveying vital information, such as evacuation instructions or impending weather hazards, emergency signal devices ensure that people are aware of potential risks and can take immediate action to protect themselves.
Contactless Sleep Sensors In specific scenarios, such as residential settings or healthcare facilities, contactless
sleep sensors have emerged as valuable tools for early warning systems. These sensors employ non-intrusive technologies, such as radar or infrared, to monitor an individual's sleep patterns and detect irregularities that may indicate an emergency situation. For instance, contactless sleep sensors can detect sudden movements, changes in breathing patterns, or abnormal heart rates during sleep, enabling immediate alerts to be sent to caregivers or emergency responders. This proactive approach enhances the chances of early intervention and assistance, particularly for individuals with medical conditions or vulnerable populations.
Emergency Alert Systems Emergency alert systems encompass a comprehensive network of communication channels, including mobile devices, televisions, radios, and public address systems, to disseminate urgent information to a wide audience swiftly. These systems are capable of delivering targeted alerts, ranging from severe weather warnings and natural disasters to terrorist threats or public safety incidents. By leveraging technology and geolocation capabilities, emergency alert systems ensure that individuals receive relevant notifications based on their current location, empowering them to make informed decisions and take appropriate actions in potentially life-threatening situations.
Contactless Monitoring and Early Warning System The advancement of technology has enabled the development of contactless monitoring and early warning systems, revolutionizing emergency preparedness and response. These systems utilize various sensors, such as video cameras, environmental detectors, and data analytics, to continuously monitor the surroundings for potential hazards. By analyzing patterns, anomalies, or critical indicators, these systems can quickly detect and alert authorities or responsible personnel about emerging threats, allowing for timely intervention and mitigating potential risks. This proactive approach to emergency management enhances public safety and aids in effective response coordination.
Conclusion Emergency alert systems have become indispensable tools in modern society, providing real-time communication and critical notifications during urgent situations. By embracing the power of real-time communication and leveraging advanced monitoring and detection capabilities, emergency alert systems contribute significantly to saving lives, minimizing damage, and enhancing overall public safety. Investing in robust emergency alert systems, contactless monitoring and
emergency signals improving ensure the well-being of individuals and communities in the face of unforeseen emergencies.

2023.06.08 20:17 sheamichael04 AITA for ignoring my grandmothers possible depression?.
So I have a grandmother who doesn't seem to like her life at the moment. She is in her late 80s and has a narcissist of a daughter, my mother, and a lazy-arse son, my uncle.
Both of us have never gotten on with my mother, the other day she called her up screaming about a new job for me that I wasn't interested in because I have an interview about a new music course I'm doing at a university coming up in about a month. I've also considered blocking her number on my grandmothers phone but she calls the home phone anyway and she won't have that disconnected because some guy that she's known for 30 or so years doesn't want to call her over her mobile phone.
My uncle on the other hand, while not as lazy as some of my family members might make him out to be, because he still will do chores if he needs to, he still is somewhat lazy, calling me up to come al the way downstairs to turn his TV off or something else. He is just too goddamn lazy to get his lazy-arse up out of bed and turn it off himself. He also drinks sometimes. It's nowhere near as bad as it used to be, he only has like 2 drinks per day now, but that's still enough to drive him silly. I'm very used to it, but my grandmother is just about sick to death of it.
All of this takes a toll on my grandmothers mental health, every time something bad like this happens, like an argument in the family, for example, she carries on about how shit her life is and how lonely she is. I've tried suggesting to her to talk to a counsellor, but she thinks she doesn't need to. She claims that she doesn't have any friends when she does have a few, but it's always the same old bullshit excuses of, 'oh, she only comes around to watch the football.' or, 'oh, they are only my bowling friends.' or, 'oh, he only calls up over the phone. You know, that such type of bullshit.
A few weeks ago, I called on a service called Lifeline, which is a counselling/therapy service. I reached a counsellor and shoved the phone into her hand, similar to what my uncle did with me when he called on a counsellor for me. They talked for over an hour, but the phone call conversation never had an effect on her, because just 2 days later, she was back at it again carrying on about how shit her life is and how fucking lonely she is. She thinks that I can't help her. I am her grandson. I desperately want to help her because I care about her, but if she is just going to reject my advice, and continue carrying on, then I've got nothing left to say to her. I'm already sick of her carrying on. I really desperately want to help her, but if she's just gonna reject my advice, then I can't help her. I don't know how to help her. Maybe it's that I just don't understand what the feeling of loneliness feels like. My uncle is moving out soon for a house to rent, and I'm thinking about moving in with him. I want to help her, but I can't anymore, and I am sick, almost to death of her carrying on.
So, am I the arsehole for ignoring my grandmother?.

CTTT anticipates expanding its business by combining quick-return sales with annuity-based easing to the blue-chip resource, defence, and government sectors. (CSE). Here is CiTech’s LinkedIn page. One large new fire was reported in New Jersey. Nationally, seven large fires have burned 66,209 acres in six states. Since January 1, 18,403 wildfires have burned 518,698 acres across the United States. These numbers are slightly below the 10-year average of 21,908 wildfires and 1,016,684 acres burned. As well, Canada is on track for its worst-ever year of wildfire destruction as warm and dry conditions are forecast to persist through to the end of the summer after an unprecedented start to the fire season. The bravery of these fire fighters is virtually peerless. CiTech has a direct and critical response to disasters with it’s NEXUS 16 comminications tower. Arguably, the first loss in a disaster is critical comunications systems and infrastructure. You’ll likey agree these amazing products have a place in just about evert town on earth and the quick ability to deploy. https://preview.redd.it/fx8urexq4u4b1.jpg?width=302&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=927c60ab176c45ee2f6ae07294e7e9f1bd2ecd88 Once communications are lost, the solar powered, self contained NEXUS can be deployed and restore communications in 30 minute. 30 minutes. Dwell on that for a moment. For all investors—and everyone else—the NEXUS 16 has a minimal environmental impact. The device, with a small equipment room is solar powered, does not need a level base and uses very little diesel. No specialised training or operators are required. " We can get an entire town back on the air again, in 30 minutes without anything other than a truck that can move it," CiTech's engineer Andrew Hill said, "We found a way to build a room which could house the technology that phone companies need or mining companies need, or emergency services need or more importantly defence needs as well." The enclosed article exemplifies the salient points in this article and the expanding awareness of the importance and compelling nature of the Company’s technology. It would be ghoulish to identify CiTech as a proxy for disaster. Instead we should identify as a proxy for safety, help for those in the disaster zone and the lives saved. Estimates (so far) USD1.79 billion merely to restore Ukraine’s communications infrastructure, the potential of quick deployment is obvious, whether Ukraine, raging bush fires or a weather disaster to name a very, very few. Talks with supplying Ukraine are ongoing. The U.S., Latvian and Ukrainian governments have expressed an interest in the product, according to CiTech Chief Executive Brenton Scott. Bottom Line Unlike a lot of tech companies, CiTech is relatively simple to understand. Proprietary technology to restore communication in a remote area, disaster—natural and manmade—and in a conflict such as the Ukraine conflict. Need a clear definition? “The Nexus 16 a 20ft container sized, technology-agnostic platform that supports a walk-in equipment room, batteries, solar arrays, and generators along with a 16m folding tower. Able to be transported to site on any truck that can take a standard 20ft container, the Nexis 16 can unload itself, adapt to sloping or uneven ground and then deploy 16m cyclone rated tower. - All within 30 minutes.” By all measure, patient investors can get in on the ground floor and be part of a technology that saves land, property, and more importantly, lives. submitted by Professional_Disk131 to trakstocks [link] [comments] |

2023.06.08 19:15 Phaethosia Ankündigung: r/kochen geht am 12. Juni für 48h Stunden in den Streik.
Liebes
kochen,
Eure mods.

2023.06.08 19:11 BadgerMama I yearn for a different SDV mobile app.
Now, hear me out. I don't mean changing the mobile game. What I want is just a fun little doodad of an app that is basically just like checking the TV in the morning in the game. I could get a very basic weather report, and some random thing about what kind of luck I can expect for the day. Just sheer aesthetic silliness. What do you all think?

2023.06.08 19:01 TurtleTimeline Hurtigruten unveils zero-emission cruise ship
https://turtletimeline.com/hurtigruten-unveils-zero-emission-cruise-ship/ Revolutionary maritime project strives for emission-free travel and superior energy efficiency
Pioneering a new era of sustainable maritime travel,
Hurtigruten Norway has laid out
ambitious plans for its first
zero-emission cruise ship. Set to be the world’s most energy-efficient vessel, this initiative marks a major step forward in aligning the cruise industry with global sustainability objectives.
“Following a rigorous feasibility study, we have pinpointed the most promising technologies for our groundbreaking future cruise ships. We are committed to delivering a ship that surpasses all others in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability within just a few years,” said Hedda Felin, CEO of Hurtigruten Norway.
Innovations in maritime technology
The novel ship will feature multiple firsts in the industry, including retractable sails embedded with solar panels, AI maneuvering, and advanced hull coating. These technologies will enhance the ship’s energy efficiency and set a new standard for sustainable maritime travel.
Harnessing AI for enhanced operations
Utilizing
artificial intelligence, Hurtigruten Norway will optimize docking and undocking operations in diverse weather conditions. This strategic use of AI will ensure the most efficient use of energy and contribute significantly to the ship’s overall sustainability.
Prioritizing passenger comfort and views
The zero-emission ship will not compromise on passenger comfort or scenic views. With a streamlined shape to minimize air resistance and expansive window areas, guests will enjoy a serene journey along ‘the world’s most beautiful coastline.’
An interactive experience for guests
In a unique twist, guests will have the opportunity to contribute to the ship’s energy conservation efforts through an interactive mobile app. The app will allow passengers to manage their cabin ventilation and monitor their personal water and energy usage.
Ship specifications:
- Length: 135 meters
- Cabins: 270
- Capacity: 500 guests and 99 crew members
- Energy sources: 60-megawatt hour battery solutions, solar panels, wind technology
- Unique features: Retractable sails with solar panels, AI maneuvering, contra-rotating propellers, multiple retractable thrusters, air lubrication, advanced hull coating, proactive hull cleaning
Conclusion
As Hurtigruten Norway sails ahead with its ground-breaking initiative, the implications for the maritime industry are far-reaching. With this project, Hurtigruten offers a compelling vision of a future where travel is not just about reaching a destination, but also about preserving the very world we are so keen to explore.

2023.06.08 18:47 Asleep_Onion Garmin knocked the ball out of the park w/ Epix Pro 51mm
I've had a Fenix 7X Sapphire since launch day last year, and have absolutely loved it the whole time. It's a fantastic watch, and the battery life is ludicrous. I always felt a little bit of FOMO for that beautiful amoled screen, but the limitation to 47mm case size and 6 days of always-on display just didn't cut it for me.
Enter the Epix Pro 51mm. As soon as this came out, I knew I had to give it a try. Maybe not as a complete replacement for my Fenix 7XSS, but perhaps as a new daily-wear watch for everyday life and single-day activity recording.
I'm blown away by how good this watch is. First of all, it's already running firmware 13.22, so it's had 18 months of solid R&D into it, you won't be buying a watch with barebones firmware full of bugs. This firmware is solid.
So I thought I'd put together a list of pros and cons to share of the Epix 2 Pro 51mm versus the Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar, along with some of my thoughts.
Pros: - The flashlight is WAY brighter than the 7X non-Pro. It's at least 2x as bright. Turning them both up to full brightness and pointing them at the wall, the 7X flashlight pales in comparison, it's not even close. The new Fenix 7 Pro models do also have this brighter flashlight upgrade.
- The maps are GORGEOUS! With so much more detail, beautiful gradients and very clear contents. The weather overlays are nothing short of a game changer, and they look absolutely spectacular on the Epix screen. While this feature is also coming to Fenix, I can't imagine it will look good on a 64-color screen, and most likely I won't even try to use these overlays on my Fenix because it will just muck up the map and make the whole thing hard to read.
- The "dim" mode when the watch screen goes into standby in AOD mode while you're not looking at it, is still quite bright and much easier to read than a Fenix indoors.
- Garmin finally perfected "gesture" sensing. I never used gesture backlighting on my Fenix because it always did a terrible job of sensing when I was actually looking at my watch and when I wasn't, but they nailed it with Epix.
- I never really disliked the buttons on the Fenix 7X, but they've done something on the new Pro models to make them feel MUCH better. I'm not sure what they changed, but the buttons feel a lot more "crisp", if that makes any sense. The 7X buttons always felt a bit sloppy to me, although it never bothered me personally. The Epix Pro buttons are a lot more satisfying to press.
- I'm surprised by how readable it is under direct sunlight. This was my biggest worry with an Amoled screen, but they've made the screen capable of going so ridiculously bright that it can easily overcome direct sunlight. I think Fenix might (barely) have it beat, but honestly it's very close to being as good as Fenix outdoors.
- "Red Shift" mode eliminates most concerns about the bright amoled screen wrecking your night vision. It's very easy on the eyes, and great for checking the time in the middle of the night. You can have it automatically enter Red Shift mode during your sleep window, which is a nice feature.
- Epix Pro 51mm Sapphire looks and feels exactly the same as Fenix 7X Sapphire. I mean, apart from the screen itself, they are basically identical. I got both watches in Sapphire, with the same gray color, and even the same nylon straps, and they look and feel identical. This is a good thing for me, because it means that whenever I switch watches there won't be any noticeable change, nothing that feels odd or different, nothing I need to get used to.
Cons: - I don't like that the screen turns completely off when you're not wearing it. There doesn't seem to be any way to change that. It turns completely off, black, when you take the watch off. The reason that this sucks for me is I like to hang my watch on a hook in the shower, and be able to see the time and notifications while it's hanging there, but this isn't really possible with the Epix. I don't really cycle, but many cyclists who mount the watch on their handlebars complain about the same thing. On the plus side, I can tap the screen and it'll turn on, so it still sort of works for my shower scenario, but the Fenix wins here with its screen that is always fully on whether you're wearing it or not.
- Garmin doesn't fully take advantage of the higher screen resolution as much as they could. For example, its capacity to show data on activity datascreens is basically the same as the Fenix; even though they could definitely cram more data or detail into the screen by using smaller fonts, etc., they just don't. That's probably fine for people with bad eyesight who need larger data, but my eyesight is great and I would love having more detail and data on my datascreens even if it meant everything had to shrink. It would be nice if Garmin gave us the ability to choose whether we want to shrink everything and cram more detail onto the screen or not, but for now we're basically only stuck with one display style.
- The obvious elephant in the room is battery life. It's got very good battery life for an amoled screen, but obviously it comes nowhere near Fenix 7X. That being said, it's got excellent battery life for what it is. I charged it 24 hours ago, and have been spending quite a bit of time screwing around with the watch setting it up the way I want it, and 24 hours later it still has 94%, which is pretty darn good. But the Fenix would probably still have 98% under the same circumstances.
- "Red Shift" mode, for some reason, doesn't work in activities. It works everywhere else, but as soon as you start an activity it turns off red shift mode, and I don't know why. It even stays off after you leave the activity, until you turn it back on again. I assume this is something Garmin will address in the future, but for now it's a limitation that might be important to know about.
- Weather overlays on the map are, oddly, only available in the Weather widget. They're not available on maps within an activity yet. I suspect this will be added soon though, as I'm certainly not the first person to point it out or complain about that limitation.
- It still only has 32GB of storage. WTF, Garmin? It's 2023, and we've still got the same storage limit as Fenix 6 did in 2019. With modern data storage density technology, they should be able to easily cram 64GB or 128GB into these watches, so I don't understand why we still don't get enough storage space to store worldwide topoactive maps.
Summary: As I expected, it's not going to be able to fully 100% replace my 7X, for my own use case. However, it will definitely take over as my daily-wear watch, and my typical daily activities like running or dayhikes. The Fenix will continue to be my go-to watch for longer activities like backpacking and overlanding, but it will most likely live in the sock drawer when I'm not using it for that.
If I didn't already have the Fenix 7XSS, I might have strongly considered
only owning the Epix Pro 51mm, and making it work for everything by just bringing a charging cable and power source with me on longer adventures. It does 95% of what the Fenix can do, and if you bring a charger and battery pack with you then it can do 105% of what a Fenix can do. But sometimes I just don't want to
have to recharge, and so the Fenix will continue to be a part of my kit for that reason (and that reason, only).
TLDR; If you're
considering picking up a 51mm Epix Pro, do it! You definitely won't be disappointed. This is, in my opinion, the best outdoor watch
anyone has ever made.
And a side note about using multiple Garmin watches at once: This is a new concept to me, I've been using Garmin watches for about 5 years now, but I've only ever used one at a time. Whenever I got a new watch, it always immediately replaced whatever watch I had before it. So I thought I'd write a little bit about this for anyone else who might be curious how this works.
I don't think it was always this way, but as of now Garmin makes this process really seamless and easy. "Physio TrueUp" is no longer even a thing that you have to turn off or on or configure in any way, it's just always on, and there aren't even any settings for it anymore. It just works, always, by default.
When you add a second device, it asks you if you want to make it your primary device or not. In my case, I did make my new Epix Pro the primary device. What this does, is it tells Garmin to always use the data from that device whenever there is a conflict with data from another device, such as steps or HR that were recorded at the same time. But any time you're only wearing one device, regardless of which device it is, it'll use the data from whichever device you are wearing. It's quite seamless and very well done.
The Connect mobile app even communicates with both devices at the same time. Whenever a notification comes in, it pops up on both watches at the same time, and when I clear the notification from one watch it clears it on the other one at the same time. The whole experience is very well done, Garmin clearly put a lot of thought into making their ecosystem work well for people who own multiple Garmin watches.
I have heard that some things won't sync completely between devices, such as I think body battery and maybe some of the training readiness metrics. I haven't really played around with it enough yet to know for sure what the limitations are, but on the surface so far everything that's important to me seems to be pretty well synced up between the two devices.
And with that... hopefully this info helped someone! Feel free to post any questions and I'll try to answer them as best as I can. Cheers!

2023.06.08 18:30 albertoZurini Clock web app with weather and photos to recycle an old iPad 2
Hello, I'd like to recycle an old iPad 2 into a clock for the kitchen with some other features, like the radar map for the weather and a slideshow with some photos.
Do you know any web app that I can use/incorporate?
